Mahigit sa $1 billion investments sa Pinas, inanunsyo ng Kalihim ng US Commerce

DUMATING na sa Pilipinas si US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo bitbit ang magandang balita na mahigit sa $1 bilyong halaga ng investments ang paparating sa bansa mula sa 22 American companies.

Si Raimondo, nangunguna sa high-level Presidential Trade and Investment Mission, nakipagpulong kina Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr at Philippine economic team sa kanyang pagdating.

Siya ang tumayong kinatawan ni US President Joe Biden na hangad ang mas malakas na relasyon sa kalakalan sa Pilipinas.

“On this trip alone, these companies are announcing over a billion dollars of US investments including creating educational opportunities to over 30 million Filipinos,” ayon kay Raimondo sa press briefing.

“Interests in higher wage jobs, in telecommunications, in digitization, helping small and medium-sized companies to digitize. That’s a strong theme of the investments these companies hope to make,” dagdag na wika nito.

Ilan sa mga kumpanya na kasama sa trade mission at sinasabing mamumuhunan sa Pilipinas ay ang FedEx, UPS, United Airlines, Mastercard, VISA, Microsoft, at Google.

Hindi naman nito sinabi ang eksaktong investment kada kompanya subalit sinabi ni Raimondo na marami sa mga kompanyang ito lalo na sa tech firms, ang maglulunsad ng training programs sa cybersecurity, artificial intelligence at marami pang iba.

Makatutulong din ito sa semiconductor sector sa Pilipinas at mapalalakas ang turismo dahil isinama na ang Cebu sa United Airlines’ route map. Ang lahat ng investments na ito ay makalilikha ng libo-libong bagong trabaho.

“US companies are interested to invest in Filipinos. Just look at the many American companies that provide employment and professional development for thousands of Filipinos, putting them on a path to higher-paying jobs,” aniya pa rin.

Sa kabilang dako, sinabi naman ni Philippine Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual na pinirmahan na nila ang kasunduan sa karamihan sa mga kumpanyang ito.

“Google for example and other tech companies in the US will be offering our people. They’re targeting thousands of Filipinos to be given training and certification in digital competence.” aniya pa rin.

Sinabi naman ni Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Sec. Frederick Go na ang trade mission ay “not one-way” dahil hiniling din ng Pilipinas mula sa gobyerno ng Estados Unidos na i-extend ang tulong sa Philippine exports sa Estados Unidos.

“We raised a particular issue of a Filipino company that manufactures garments and exports them to the US. We brought this to their attention that a Filipino garments company needs support from the US government. We’re helping manufacturing companies in the Philippines to export their products to the US,” ayon kay Go.

Samantala, nakatakda namang makapulong ni Raimondo ang Philippine business groups, ngayong araw ng Martes, Marso 12 bago pa bumalik sa Estados Unidos. (Daris Jose)

REHAS na bakal ang kinasadlakan ng limang indibidwal matapos maaktuhang sumisinghot shabu sa Valenzuela City, kamakalawa ng gabi.

Sa report ni PCpl Christopher Quiao kay Valenzuela police chief P/Col. Salvador Destura Jr., nakatanggap ng tawag sa telepono mula sa isang concerned citizen ang mga tauhan ng Police Sub-Station 6 at ipinaalam sa kanila ang hinggil sa nagaganap umanong pot-session sa M. Gregorio St., Bagong Filipino Industrial Compuond, Brgy., Lingunan.

Kaagad namang inatasan ni SS6 Commander P/Cpt. Reymund Andujar ang kanyang mga tauhan na puntahan ang nasabing lugar.

Dito, naaktuhan ng mga pulis sa loob ng isang bahay na walang numero sina alyas ‘Christian’, 33, welder, “Fernando”, 24, massage therapist, “Avelino”, 55, warehouse staff, “Mart”, 26, helper at “Joseph”, 37, na abala umano sa pagsinghot ng shabu, dakong alas-10:15 ng gabi na nagresulta sa pagkakaaresto sa kanila.

Nakumpiska sa mga suspek ang tatlong transparent plastic sachets na naglalaman ng nasa 1.16 grams ng hinihinalang shabu na nagkakahalaga ng P7,888 at ilang drug paraphernalias.

Ban sa e-bikes, e-trikes, tricycle sa National roads sa NCR iiral na sa Abril 15

NAKATAKDA nang magsimula sa Abril 15 ang pagbabawal sa mga e-bikes, e-trikes, at tricycles sa mga national roads sa National Capital Region (NCR).

Mismong si Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Romando Artes ang nagkumpirma nito sa isang pulong balitaan .

Ayon kay Artes, “We will implement ito by April 15.But we will consider pa rin iyong ibang suggestions. Nag-aagree naman sila na kailangan i-regulate.”

Dagdag pa ni Artes, sa isinagawang pulong sa mga stakeholders ay naliwanagan naman ang mga ito na ang ipatutupad nila ay hindi total ban.

Aniya pa, hindi naman pagbabawalan ang mga naturang behikulo na lumabas ngunit hindi lamang sila maaaring dumaan sa mga national roads, kung saan hindi naman talaga sila nararapat.

Ayon sa MMDA, kabilang sa mga national roads na hindi maaaring daanan ng mga e-bikes, e-trikes, at tricycles ay ang R1: Roxas Boulevard; R2: Taft Avenue; R3: SLEX; R4: Shaw Boulevard; R5: Ortigas Avenue; Ro: Magsaysay Blvd/Aurora Blvd.; R7: Quezon Ave./ Commonwealth Ave.; R8: A. Bonifacio Avenue; R9: Rizal Avenue; R10: Del Pan/Marcos Highway/McArthur Highway; C1: Recto Avenue; C2: Pres. Quirino Avenue; C3: Araneta Avenue; C4: Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue; C5: Katipunan/C.P. Garcia; C6: Southeast Metro Manila Expressway; Elliptical Road; Mindanao Avenue; at Marcos Highway.

Una na ring sinabi ng MMDA na ang regulasyon sa mga e-vehicles ay isinulong nila para sa kaligtasan ng mga concerned drivers, passengers, at pedestrians.

Iniulat din ng MMDA na noong 2023 lamang, kabuuang apat na katao ang namatay dahil sa road crash incidents, na kinasasangkutan ng e-bikes, habang 436 naman ang nasugatan at 468 ari-arian ang napinsala.

Babala ng MMDA, ang mga lalabag sa ban ay papatawan ng multang P2,500.

Samantala, sinabi rin ng MMDA na nakatakda na ring maglabas ang Land Transportation Office (LTO) ng hiwalay na issuance kaugnay naman sa pag-require sa mga driver ng e-bikes at e-trikes ng lisensiya at registration.

Ang lahat umano ng e-vehicle ng mga driver na walang lisensiya ay kanilang ii-impound. (Daris Jose)

Meralco, muling nagpaalala sa publiko hinggil sa tamang pagtitipid ng kuryente

NAGPAALALANG muli ang pamunuan ng Manila Electric Company sa publiko hinggil sa tamang pagtitipid ng kuryente ngayong panahon ng tag-init.

Ginawa ng kumpanya ang pahayag, kasunod ng naging ulat ng state weather na nagpapatuloy ang paghina ng hanging amihan.

Sinabi ng ahensya na ito ay magdudulot ng maalinsangan at mainit na temperatura sa mga susunod na araw kayat possible aniyang tumaas ang konsumo sa kuryente.

Ayon sa power distributor, tuwing ganitong panahon ng tag-init ay kadalasang tumataas ang konsumo ng isang tahanan sa 10 hanggang hanggang 40 porsyento.

Para, maiwasan ang paglobo ng bayarin ngayong tag-init, alisin sa pagkaka saksak ang mga appliances kapag hindi ginagamit.

Makatutulong din ang maramihang pa mamalantsa ng mga damit sa halip na paisa-isa.

NAGKAROON nga kaya ng balikan at muli nang isinuot ni Bea Alonzo once ang engagement ring nila ni Dominic Roque?

Iyan ang tanong ng netizens nang mapansin ang suot na singsing ni Bea sa mga larawan na naka-post sa Instagram.

Ang post ay isang video slideshow na makikita ang mga larawan ni Bea habang nag-e-endorso ng isang skincare brand.

“OMG! Sino nakapansin dito, ‘yung ring?” ayon sa isang nagkomento sa post.

“Wow suot na makakatulog na ko ng mahimbing,” sabi naman ng isa pang netizen.

Kasalukuyang ginagawa ngayon ni Bea sa GMA Network ang upcoming series na “Widow’s War,” kasama si Carla Abellana.

MULING pumirma ng kontrata sa Kapuso Network ng GMA si Michael V. nitong Lunes. Handa na rin kaya siyang bumalik sa pagho-host ng variety o game show?

AFTER 11 years, sikretong nakipag-divorce si Natalie Portman sa mister na si Benjamin Millepied.

Hindi ginawang public ng Oscar winner ang pag-file niya ng divorce noong July 2023 sa France. Na-finalized ang divorce noong February ng taong ito.

Nakilala ni Portman si Millepied sa set ng pelikula niyang Black Swan noong 2012 kunsaan choreographer ito ng mga ballet numbers sa movie. Meron silang dalawang anak: Aleph, 12, and daughter Amalia, 7.

May 2023 noong maghiwalay sila dahil nagkaroon ng affair si Benjamin. Naka-focus na sila ngayon on co-parenting their children.

Comelec, susunod sa desisyon ng Korte

TATALIMA ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) sa desisyon ng Korte Suprema sa kasong inihain ng dating service provider na Smartmatic Philippines.

Sinabi ni Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia na hindi pa nila natanggap ang order mula sa Mataas na Hukuman na itigil ang anuman sa kanilang paghahanda para sa midterm polls sa susunod na taon.

Noong Disyembren ang nakalipas na taon, tinutulan ng Smartmatic ang legalidad ng diskwalipiaksyon nito sa proseso ng pag-bid ng poll body para sa 2025 automated election system sa Korte Suprema.

Gayunman,isinantabini Garcia ang posibilidad ng pagsasagawa ng manuel elections.

Ayon kay Garcia, hindi maaaring gamitin ang manual elections dahil maaring malabag ng Comelec ang batas.

Giit ni Garcia, maaari lamang gamitin ang automated elections in 2025 elections dahil ito ang itinatadhana ng batas.

“You have to automate the national and local elections. So kung ano po yung magiging (whatever is the) disposition, iyan naman po ay part ng proseso (that is part of the process) pero in the meantime, the Comelec will have to proceed,” sabi ni Garcia sa press briefing.

Binanggit ni Garcia na ang pakikitungo sa komisyon ay nasa maayos at pagsunod sa batas partikular sa Government Procurement Reform Act.

Nitong Lunes, ang Comelec kasama ang joint venture Miru Systems Co.Ltd., Integrated Computer Systems, St. Timothy Construction Corporation, at Centerpoint Solutions Technologies Inc. (MIRU-ICS-STCC-CPSTI), ay lumagda ng P17 bilyong kontrata sa Comelec para sa 2025 elections.

Naghain ng bid ang Miru Systems na P17.98 bilyon para sa proyekto na kinabibilangan ng paggawa ng 110,000 automated counting machines at balota bukod sa iba pa. GENE ADSUARA

Pinas, patuloy na nakikipag-ugnayan sa foreign govts

PATULOY na nakikipag-ugnayan ang Pilipinas sa foreign governments para masiguro na protektado ang mga Filipino seafarer lalo na sa Red Sea.

Sa press briefing sa Malakanyang, sinabi ni DFA Undersecretary for Migration Eduardo Jose de Vega na kinikilala nito ang naging pahayag ng United Nation Security Council na kinokondena ang ginawang pag-atake sa merchant vessels sa Gulf of Aden.

“So we have allies, we have friends with us and countries in the region are also assisting in the operations that they are conducting in response to this Houthi attacks,” ayon kay de Vega.

“We have been in touch with the United Kingdom and USA to ensure that no harm comes to seafarers,” dagdag na wika nito.

Sa 17 Filipino na sakay ng vessel Galaxy Leader, biktima rin ng pag-hijack ng mga Houthi rebels sa nakalipas, sinabi ni De Vega na nagpapatuloy ang pagsisikap ng pamahalaan na madaliin ang pagpapalaya sa mga ito.

“The 17 are still being held in Al Hudaydah in Yemen and the Philippines is “working with friendly governments to see if they could be released,” ayon kay De Vega.

“The Houthis are consistent in their statement that it would need an end to the war in Gaza before they will release the ship or seafarers,” aniya pa rin sabay sabing “But, at the very least, we know that the seafarers are safe. Of course, they’re not in the best of conditions, but they are safe and able to contact their families.”
