Huwag hayaan ang dishonesty, pang-aabuso sa trabaho

PINAALALAHANAN ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang kapulisan na magtrabaho na may integridad at huwag hayaang hindi maging tapat at abusuhin ang paggampan sa kanilang tungkulin.

Pinangunahan ni Pangulong Marcos ang ika-121 Police Service Anniversary celebration na idinaos sa PNP Multi-Purpose Center sa Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Sa naging talumpati ng Pangulo, hinikayat niya ang mga police officers na gawin ang kanilang makakaya na hindi masasakripisyo ang kanilang integridad bilang public servants.

“I enjoined all of you to give it your best as you always have, without sacrificing your integrity as servants of the people. Let us be united in supporting the PNP leadership and its crusade against those who intend to inflict harm and disorder,” ayon kay Pangulong Marcos.

“Let us continue to conduct our business with utmost integrity and accountability and let us not allow even a hint of dishonesty and abuse to enter that narrative,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

Bilang nangunguna sa kapayapaan, sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos na ang mga police officers ay ang isang halimbawa ng uri ng lider sa bansa na kailangan para malampasan ang problema.

“With solid support of vast majority, there is no doubt in my mind that we will overcome and triumph in the end despite all odds,” aniya pa rin.

Sa kabilang dako, pinaalalahanan pa rin ng Punong Ehekutibo ang mga police officers na ang paggamit ng dahas alinsunod sa kanilang tungkulin at gampanin ay dapat na “reasonable and justifiable.”

Binigyang diin ng Punong Ehekutibo na maraming mga police officers ang nagpahayag ng “important values” na maaaring makamit sa pagpapakita at pagganap sa tungkulin.

Giit pa rin ng Pangulo na dapat lamang na gawin ng police force ang kanilang tungkulin na patas at walang kinikilingan o pinapanigan.

“Given the gravity, the seriousness, the difficulty of the responsibility and relative influence that you carry, it is a must that the application of your mandate is firmly grounded on moral principles, integrity, accountability, and honesty to ensure continued public rapport and support from the public for the PNP,” ayon kay Pangulong Marcos sa kanyang naging talumpati.

“For instance, the use of force must always be reasonable, justifiable, and only undertaken when necessary. Execution of authority must be fair, it must be impartial, it must be devoid of favoritism or discrimination regardless of race, gender, socio-economic status, political affiliation, religious belief, and the like,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

Samantala, binanggit din ng Pangulo ang mga pagsubok na pinagdaanan ng Philippine National Police “as it continues to march forward relentlessly pursuing safety, security, and peace for everyone to enjoy and relish as we go about our daily lives.”

“To be honest, for the work that you do, I am more than convinced that police service is a calling that not everyone is capable of rendering as it requires a moral standard that is usually inherent in our being and demands enormous commitment and responsibility that sometimes admittedly are difficult to endure,”aniya pa rin.

Kumpiyansa naman ang Chief Executive na magiging ” great complement” sa kanyang administrasyon ang liderato ni newly-installed PNP chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. lalo na sa pagsisikap ng pamahalaan “towards a complete rebirth and restoration of a brighter, safer, and more prosperous Philippines in the days ahead.”

“I am confident that we have chosen the right leader in his person to head the PNP so that it continues to evolve, continues to grow, and to develop into a well-balanced institution — effective and capable of steadfastly rendering faithful service to our sovereign nation and all its citizenry,” ang pahayag ni Pangulong Marcos.

Sa ilalim ng liderato ni Azurin, nais ng Punong Ehekutibo na masaksihan ang police organization na mayroong “higher sense of commitment, determination, and cooperation.”

“Chief PNP General Azurin’s able governance will serve as the impetus that would further develop and strengthen the PNP in its resolve to promote goodwill and harmony in the heart of our motherland,” ayon kay Pangulong Marcos.

‘Prolonged’ COVID-19 wave sa PH, posibleng magtagal pa hanggang ‘ber’ months – OCTA

Ayon kay OCTA Research fellow Guido David, ang kasalukuyang wave ay mas matagal kesa sa inaasahan kung ihahalintulad sa tumamang Omicron BA.4 sa South Africa na nagtagal lamang ng dalawang buwan.

Paliwanag ni Dr. David, nagsimula na umanong maranasan ang COVID-19 wave noong Hunyo kung kaya’t inaasahan na huhupa na ito ngayong buwan dahil nasa ikalawang buwan na.

Subalit hindi pa niya nag-peak ang COVID-19 cases kung kaya’t nakikitaan na magtatagal pa ito ng apat hanggang sa limang buwan o hanggang sa ber months.

Paliwanag ni Dr David, ang prolonged COVID-19 wave sa bansa ay marahil dahil sa ibang variants na nagdudulot ng karagdagang infections.

Isa pa sa dahilan ay ang paghina ng immunity mula sa bakuna dahil sa mababang bilang ng mga indibidwal na nagpapaturok ng COVID-19 booster dose kung kaya’t bumababa ang antibody levels.

Paalala naman ni Dr. David na mahalaga pa rin na ipagpatuloy ang pagsunod sa public health standards. (Daris Jose)

10 pm nationwide curfew sa menor-de-edad, isinulong

MULING inihain sa Kongreso ni Bagong Henerasyon Rep. Bernadette Herrera- Dy ang bill na pagpapatupad ng curfew sa mga menor-de-edad.

Sa ilalim House Bill 1016, layong ipagbawal ang paggala ng mga menor-de-edad mula alas-10 ng gabi hanggang alas-5 ng umaga.

Ayon kay Herrera-Dy, hindi lamang pagbabawal ito sa mga minors kundi proteksiyon laban sa iba’t ibang kriminalidad.

“The bill seeks to mandate and strictly implement a set of hours during night time within which minors are prohibited from remaining outside of the home not only as a means of maintaining public order and safety and preventing the further rise in criminality but also in order to protect minors from potential threat that may arise in the remote environment which may be harmful or detrimental to their development,” ani Herrera-Dy.

Nabatid na sa ilalim ng “National Curfew Act”, pinapayagan ang ilang exemptions kabilang na ang palabas ng minor na kasama ang magulang o guardian o during emergency.

Hindi rin mapaparusahan ang minors kung siya ay pauwi na galing party, graduation o religious activities kung mapapatunayan na pinayagan.

Sa ilalim ng proposed bill ni Herrera Dy, ang menor- de-edad na mahuhuli ay ikokustodiya at kakapkapan ng pulis na pareho ng kanyang kasarian.

May parusa na 48-oras na community service at P2,000 sa unang offense habang dadalo naman sa Barangay Council for the Protection of Children ang minor at magulang at pagkakaroon na ng intervention ng local DSWD sa pamamagitan ng counselling sa ikatlong paglabag. (Daris Jose)

PBBM, tinalakay ang pagtaas ng produksyon, pagbaba ng presyo sa agri group

NAKIPAGPULONG si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa agriculture group Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) at tinalakay ang posibilidad na itaas ang produksyon ng local agricultural goods at ibaba ang presyo.

Nakipagkita si Pangulong Marcos sa SINAG sa idinaos na pang-apat na Cabinet meeting.

“Dapat mag-produce ng mas marami sa local natin and affordable price sa ating mga consumer,” ayon kay Rosendo So ng Sinag.

Idinagdag pa ang pagbaba ng presyo ng baboy at pinag-aaralan ang posibilidad ng pagpapalaki ng malalaking baboy.

“They previously used to sell 95-kilo hogs. But if they raise pigs that are at least 120 to 130 kilos, this will lead to an increase in local production and make pork prices more affordable,” ayon sa SINAG.

Sa nakalipas na mga araw, ang presyo ng manok ay umabot na sa P185, umaasa si Sinag na babalik na sa normal ang produksyon nito.

“Ang bigas, eh so far naman, nag-stabilize ang presyo dahil ang miller nasa P33 per kilo, ang deliver nasa P35 so more or less P38 ang range ng retail price,” aniya pa rin.

Sinabi ni So na kailangan na dapat na may koordinasyon sa pagitan ng private sector at Department of Agriculture (DA) upang sa gayon ay maging malinaw kung anong produkto ang kinakailangan na iangkat.

“Yun ang malaking bagay na gagawin para at least eh pakinggan ‘yung local industry, kung ilan bang mapo-produce and ‘yung kulang lang ang ipasok,” ayon kay So. (Daris Jose)

DA planong magpatupad ng SRP ng mga asukal

PLANO ng Department of Agriculture (DA) ang pagpapatupad ng suggested retail price (SRP) ng mga asukal ng P90 per kilo ng mga asukal.

Base kasi sa pinakahuling monitoring ng DA na nasa P95.00 na per kilo ang asukal para sa mga refined; P75 per kilo sa mga washed at P70 per kilo ng brown.

Sinabi ni DA Undersecretary Kristine Evangelista, na kailangan ng Pilipinas ang mag-angkat ng nasa 300,000 metric tons para sa mapunan ang kakulangan ng suplay ng asukal sa bansa.

Paliwanag pa nito na nanantili pa rin ang epekto ng bagyong Odette noong nakaraang taon sa mga lugar kung saan karamihan ay nagmumula ang mga asukal.

Nakatakdang makipagpulong ang DA sa mga negosyante ng asukal para sa nasabing usapin.

15 probinsiya sa Luzon, nakapagtala ng very high Covid-19 positivity rate

INIULAT ng OCTA Research Group na isinailalim ngayon sa “very high” COVID-19 positivity rates ang 15 probinsiya sa Luzon.

Ang mga lugar na ito ay kinabibilangan ng probinsiya ng Albay, Benguet, Cagayan, Camarines Sur, Cavite, Isabela, La Union, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Quezon, Rizal, Tarlac, at Zambales.

Base sa data, nakuha ng Camarines Sur ang pinaka-highest record na 48.7 percent; sinundan ng Isabela (47.6 percent), Tarlac (41.9 percent), Nueva Ecija (38.4 percent), Pampanga (35 percent), at Laguna (33.2 percent).

Ang Cagayan ay nakapagtala ng 30.5 percent positivity rate; sinundan ng La Union (29.4 percent), Zambales (28.6 percent), Albay (28.2 percent), Quezon (25.1 percent), Pangasinan (25 percent), Benguet (22 percent), Cavite (21.1 percent) at Rizal (18.8 percent).

Samantala, iniulat din ni David na tumaas din ang positivity rate sa Metro Manila mula 15.5 porsiyento noong Hulyo 30 hanggang 17.5 porsiyento noong Agosto 6. (Daris Jose)

“THE INVITATION” — HORROR TOLD FROM A FEMALE PERSPECTIVE

EMMY-NOMINATED filmmaker Jessica M. Thompson directs Columbia Pictures’ new horror thriller The Invitation starring Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones, Fast & Furious 7 & 8).

Thompson made her feature writer-directorial debut with The Light of the Moon, which won the Audience Award for Best Narrative Film at SXSW. The film holds a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics calling it “harrowingly effective” (Variety), “honest and complex” (The Hollywood Reporter), and Film Inquiry stated that “for any filmmaker this would be an unmitigated triumph, but for a first-time filmmaker this is revelatory.”

The Invitation gave Thompson the chance to work in the horror genre which was irresistible. “I grew up on horror, on thrillers. They are sacred to me,” she says. “I always wanted to make a horror movie told from a female perspective.”

The Invitation centers on Evie (Emmanuel), a struggling artist in New York. After the death of her mother and having no other known relatives, Evie takes a DNA test…and discovers a long-lost cousin she never knew she had. Invited by her newfound family to a lavish wedding in the English countryside, she’s at first seduced by the sexy aristocrat host but is soon thrust into a nightmare of survival as she uncovers twisted secrets in her family’s history and the disturbing intentions behind their generosity.

Thompson says her favorite and most challenging scene was the rehearsal dinner, where the true motivations of the hosts are revealed. “It starts off as a beautiful, sumptuous ball, and then halfway through, the penny drops. In that sense, it was like making two scenes in one: the beauty is covering a nightmare boiling under the surface,” Thompson explains. “All of the decadent food is actually rotting and melting and dripping, the incredible chandelier is actually made of antlers and skulls. Among the characters, there’s so much to capture: Evie’s emotion, as she’s realizing the true horror of what’s happening to her, so many looks from the guests, so many nuanced beats. It was a three-day shoot to get it all – so that was the hardest scene but also the most rewarding one, because I think it’s one of the best scenes in the film.”

“It begins as a masked ball, beautiful and decadent and transformative,” says producer Emile Gladstone. “Evie walks in, beautiful, wearing her red dress and her gorgeous mask, and she is sitting next to a man who she’s recently fallen in love with. She’s never felt more at home or surrounded by family with a solid man in her life. And then, halfway through the dinner, it all turns. And what’s beautiful turns nightmarish.”

Kasabay ng event, may mga naka-standby na medical station sa South Road Properties sakaling magkaroon ng emergency, habang nakadeploy naman ang mga tauhan ng Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Cebu City Transportation Office at Highway Patrol Group-Central Visayas upang tumulong sa seguridad.

Namataan naman na lumahok sa bike leg ngayong taon ang Cebu Businessman at Actor na si Paul Jake Castillo.

May ilan pang kalahok ng triathlon race na pinatigil dahil sa ilang paglabag sa mga patakaran. Binigyan ang mga ito ng time penalty para sa drafting violation, littering violation, blocking violation at iba pa.

Samantala, si August Benedicto ang overall winner para sa men’s division at top finisher ng men’s 35-40 years old.

Tinapos niya ang 1.9-km swim, 90-km bike at 21-km run sa loob ng mahigit 4 na oras.

Ang unang triathlon ni Benedicto ay noon pang taong 2019 at kaunti lang ang oras para paghandaan ang karerang ito ngunit nagawa pa rin niyang manguna.

Habang si Ines Santiago naman ang unang babaeng finisher ng Megaworld IRONMAN Philippines Cebu. Si Santiago rin ang unang babaeng finisher ng Century Tuna IRONMAN Philippines noong Marso ng taong kasalukuyan.

PATULOY pa rin ang pagdalaw ng mga malalapit na kaibigan sa burol ni dating Pangulong Fidel V. Ramos sa Heritage Park, Taguig City.

Nitong gabi ng Linggo ay nagbigay pugay ang ilang mga kaibigan na mula pa sa ibang probinsiya at ilang mga lider mula sa progresibong grupo.

Ilan sa mga ito ay sina Alliance of Concerned Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro at dating mga mambabatas na sina Satur Ocampo at Liza Maza.

Kasama ring dumalaw ang historian na si Xiao Chua na may dala pang libro at sumbrero na pirmado ng dating pangulo.

Bago ang pagsisimula ng talumpati ng mga dating nakasama ay naghandog ng ilang kanta ang singer na si Dulce.
