SA selebrasyon ng Pride Month ngayong Hunyo, ihahandog ng Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) ang 2nd PelikuLAYA: LGBTQIA+ Film Festival online from June 4 to 30.

May theme ito ng “Sama-Sama, Lahat Rarampa!”, sa taong ito aim ng PelikuLAYA na ma-empower ang members ng LGBTQIA+ community sa pamamagitan ng lineup ng local at international films, film talks and lectures, a drag yoga event, at musical performances.

Simula sa June 4, a total of 23 subscription films can be viewed for only PHP 99 on the FDCP Channel (fdcpchannel.ph), kasama dito ang seven PelikuLAYA titles na available hanggang June 30: “Masahista” by Brillante Mendoza, “I Love You. Thank You” by Charliebebs Gohetia, “Mga Gabing Kasing Haba ng Hair Ko” by Gerardo Calagui, “Miss Bulalacao” by Ara Chawdhury, “Ang Huling Cha-Cha Ni Anita” by Sigrid Andrea P. Bernardo, “Best. Partee. Ever.” by HF Yambao, and “Ned’s Project” by Lem Lorca.

Available for rental naman starting June 4 ang award-winning French film “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” ni Céline Sciamma starring Adèle Haenel and Noémie Merlant, na magkakaroon ng Philippine Online Premiere sa PelikuLAYA 2021.

Ang 2019 Cannes Awardee for the Queer Palm Prize and Best Screenplay will be available for rental for PHP 220 with a 7-day access that will expire 48 hours after the first play.

Mapapanood din ng libre sa PelikuLAYA ang apat na pelikula: Rhadem Morados’ documentary “Budjang” and three shorts from CineSpectra 2019: A Film Festival for HIV/AIDS Awareness — “A” by Rod Modina, “Alex & Aki” by Dexter Paul de Jesus, and “Doon sa Isang Sulok” by Yong Tapang, Jr.

Bukod dito, magkakaroon din ng one-time free screenings ang “Lihis” (a love story during the Marcos regime involving two NPA comrades played by Jake Cuenca and Joem Bascon, kasama rin sina Lovi Poe, Isabelle Daza, at Gloria Diaz) ni Joel Lamangan for the opening program at ang restored version ng “T-Bird at Ako” ni Danny Zialcita for the closing program. Sa FDCP’s Cine Lokal ginanap ang ‘1st PelikuLAYA’ noong 2018 with screenings of award-winning films in selected SM Cinemas. First ‘Agnes’ Trailer and Photos Teases Classic Exorcism Horror Film

AS the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival ramps up, we’re getting more and more hints at the films featured at the festival, including the upcoming nun horror film Agnes, and will have its world premiere on June 12.

Directed by Mickey Reece, behind indie hits like Climate of the Hunter and T-Rex, Agnes follows a priest-in-waiting and his jaded mentor as they set out to discover if the rumors of demonic possession at a nunnery are true.

The film stars Molly C. Quinn, Jake Horowitz, Sean Gunn, Chris Browning, Ben Hall, Mary Buss, and Chris Sullivan, who make up the cast of nuns and priests in this classic horror tale. Unlike other demonic possession films, Agnes‘ trailer seems to break out from the mold, particularly through Reece’s choice to focus on the mystery of the possession rather than its scary effects.

The combination of the disillusioned priest teaming up with the rookie sees Reece pulling from noir and thriller tropes, as well as including some classic paranormal effects like speaking in tongues and objects flying off shelves.

Regardless of whether or not Agnes does become a standout horror film, exorcism and evil nun films are always super fun and enjoyable. A staple of the horror genre, possession films have decreased in quality over the past few years, although they are breakthroughs in the genre like with The Conjuring series. We’ve also seen the genre switch to television, like Warrior Nun and American Horror Story, and there are plenty of new projects on the way.

Demonic possession and exorcism movies on the way include a reboot of Paranormal Activity, another addition to The Conjuring franchise titled The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, a Rosemary’s Baby modern update called False Positive, another film in production from Sam Raimi called Every House is Haunted, plus a whole bunch of other reboots, remakes, and sequels.

Although it draws from decades of films and hundreds of stories, Agnes can at least boast an original story, which is more than the current state of horror can say. (source: collider.com)

TIMBOG ang anim na hinihinalang sangkot sa illegal na droga kabilang ang isang security guard at 17-anyos na estudyante matapos maaktuhan ng mga pulis na sumisinghot ng shabu sa magkahiwalay na lugar sa Valenzuela City.

Ayon kay PCpl Pamela Joy Catalla, habang nasa loob ng kanilang opisina ang mga operatiba ng Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) dakong alas-11:30 ng gabi nang personal na lumapit ang Supervisor ng Wilcon Gasoline Station at ipinaalam sa kanila na may natagpuan siyang drug paraphernalia sa loob ng security guard barracks sa Wiloil gasoline station sa No. 58 Pio St., Brgy. Marulas.

Pinuntahan ng mga operatiba ng SDEU sa pangunguna ni PLT Joel Madregalejo ang naturang lugar na nagresulta sa pagkakaaresto kay Conrad Alajas, 29, security guard ng nasabing gasoline station matapos maaktuhang sumisinghot ng shabu sa loob ng barracks dakong 1 ng madaling araw.

Narekober kay Alajas ang nasa 2 grams ng hinihinalang shabu na tinatayang nasa P13,600 ang halaga, ilang drug paraphernalias at cellphone.

Nauna rito, alas-6:30 ng gabi nang maaktuhan din ng mga operatiba ng SDEU sina Alvin Cunanan, 31, Edmari Ablang Rebudal, 27, Julius Trazo Entienza, 27, John Rey Tudera, 18, at ang 17-anyos na binatilyong grade 7 student na nagpa-pot-session umano sa loob ng bahay sa No. 4284 Orosco St. Mapulang Lupa sa isinagawang validation matapos ang natanggap na tawag sa telepono mula sa isang concerned citizen hinggil sa nagaganap umanong illegal drug activities sa naturang lugar.

Ani SDEU investigator PSMS Fortunato Candido, nakumpiska sa mga suspek ang nasa 0.5 gramo ng hinihinalang shabu na tinatayang nasa P3,400 ang halaga, at ilang drug paraphernalia.

Mahaharap ang mga naarestong suspek sa kasong paglabag sa RA 9165 o ang Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002 habang tinurnover naman sa pangangalaga ng DSWD ang menor-de-edad. (Richard Mesa)

Women’s softball team kauna-unahang koponan na nasa Japan

Nauna ang women’s softball team ng Australia na mga international athletes na dumating sa Japan para sa Olympics.

Dadalo muna sa training camp sa Ota City ang koponan bago lumipat sa Athletes’ Village sa Tokyo sa Hulyo 17.

Lahat aniya ng mga miyembro nito ay naturukan na ng COVID-19 vaccine at sila ay araw-araw na sinusuri kung may virus.

Mananatili sa mga loob ng kanilang hotel ang koponan at lalabas lamang ang mga ito kapag magta-train.

Magsisimula ang mga laro sa Tokyo Olympics sa Hulyo 23.

SA Bataan ang lock-in taping ng bagong sinisimulang serye ng GMA-7, ang To Have and To Hold.

Nakakausap namin ang isa sa mga bida ng serye na si Max Collins at ayon dito, mga hanggang third week of June pa pala sila naka-lock-in.

Dahil sobrang higpit ng safety protocols, gusto sana naming dumalaw at nakaka-miss na talaga ang mag-set-visit at mag-interview na hindi naman online kung hindi tulad ng dati na face-to-face. Pero hindi na kami nag-attempt na magpaalam dahil malamang, imposible.

Unfair rin siyempre sa lahat ng kasama sa lock-in na bago mag-lock-in taping, seven days na naka-quarantine sa hotel at nag-undergo ng PCR test.

Pero maganda sa location nila at isa ito sa spot sa Bataan na masasabing malamig kahit na summer. Bukod pa sa nasa resort sila kaya para rin silang naka-bakasyon kung wala silang taping day. Medyo bundok na ito kaya malayo talaga sa maraming tao.

Sa isang banda, ibang tema at feeling namin, magiging controversial sa mga manonood ang To Have and To Hold. Adultery pa rin ito, pero may bonggang twist.

Mag-asawa ang role nina Max at Rocco Nacino na taong 2012 pa nang huling magkasama sa isang serye. Kasama rin si Carla Abellana sa serye at mukhang ang character niya ang magiging malaking twist sa diumano’y “picture-perfect” na buhay mag-asawa nina Max at Rocco.

Si Max ay halos kakakasal lang din at mag-iisang taon ang anak, pero napapabalitang on the rocks na ang marriage nila ni Pancho Magno.

Si Rocco naman ay nasa honeymoon stage pa lang ng marriage nila ni Melissa Gohing. At si Carla naman, ikakasal pa lang sa boyfriend na si Tom Rodriguez.

Pero mukhang silang tatlo ay pwedeng maka-relate at mapatanong sa totoong marriage nila kung keri ba nila sakali at same twist sa serye nila ang ma-experience nila, huh!

ANG pagiging Christian daw ni Jennica Garcia ay natutunan niya mula sa kanyang ama, ang dating actor na si Jigo Garcia.

Birthday ni Jigo at ng Misis nito. Pero simula nang makipaghiwalay sa Mister na si Alwyn Uytingco, balik showbiz si Jennica kaya wala siya sa birthday ng ama at step-mom.

Pero sa message ni Jennica sa daddy niya at sa misis ng ama, very grateful siya sa mga ito at ipinahayag kung gaano raw niya kamahal.

Kai ready lang para sa Gilas Pilipinas

Nakahanda si Kai Sotto anuman ang maging role nito sa Gilas Pilipinas na sasabak sa dalawang malalaking FIBA tournaments ngayong buwan.

Solong dumating kahapon si Sotto mula sa Amerika kung saan hindi nito kasama ang kanyang pamilya dahil sa availability sa flight.

“Walang flight for five (persons) kaya ako lang mag-isa. Dapat kasama ko buong family ko,” ani Sotto.

Diretso si Sotto sa quarantine hotel ang 7-foot-3 cager kung saan sasailalim ito sa 14-day quarantine period.

Dahil sa quarantine, hindi na makakasama pa ni Sotto ang Gilas Pilipinas sa training camp sa Inspire Sports Academy.

Matatapos ang quarantine ni Sotto dalawang araw bago magsimula ang FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.

Gayunpaman, handa si Sotto anuman ang maging desisyon ng Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) coaching staff.

“Ako naman stay ready lang ako maglaro kahit kailan pa yan hanggang nandito ako sa Pilipinas,” ani Sotto.

Sabik na si Sotto na makapaglaro sa national team kasama ang Gilas Pilipinas.

“Excited na ako na maglaro. First time ko na makapaglaro sa national team ng Pilipinas. Sobrang excited na ako hindi na ako makapaghintay na makasama yung team,” ani Sotto.

Pasok na rin sa second round ang powerhouse team na Brooklyn Nets matapos ilampaso sa Game 5 ang Boston Celtics, 123-109.

Tinapos ng Nets ang first round series sa 4 wins against 1.

Dahil dito, uusad na ang Brooklyn sa semifinals upang harapin naman ang nag-aantay na Milwaukee Bucks.

Walang patawad na muling nagsama sa opensa ang Big Three ng Nets upang tapusin na rin ang kampanya ng Celtics.

Nanguna si James Harden na may 34 points, 10 rebounds at 10 assists sa kanyang unang postseason triple-double, habang si Kyrie Irving naman ay umiskor ng 25 points at si Kevin Durant ay nag-ambag ng 24 puntos.

Ang Game 1 ng Nets laban sa grupo ni reigning NBA MVP na si Giannis Antetokounmpo ay magaganap sa araw ng Linggo sa teritoryo ng Brooklyn.

Ito ang unang pangyayari na muling makakatikim sa semifinals ang Brooklyn Nets mula pa noong taong 2014.

Samantala, sa Celtics si Jason Tatum ay pumuntos ng 32 at may nine rebounds.

DOE: Reserba ng kuryente sa Luzon grid hindi lang manipis, ‘negative’ na

Inamin ng Department of Energy (DOE) na sumadsad na sa “negative” ang estado ng supply ng kuryente sa Luzon grid.

“Nakakalungkot ibalita na hindi na lang siya manipis, kundi negative na,” ani Energy Usec. Felix William Fuentebella.

Ayon sa opisyal, umaabot sa negatibo ang estado ng power supply kapag mas marami nang gumagamit ng kuryente, at kaunti na lang ang nagbibigay ng generator bilang dagdag na pwersa.

Sa ikatlong sunod na araw, nagpatupad ng yellow at red alert ang National Grid Corporation of the Philippines sa ilang bahagi ng Luzon.

Kaya inaasahan ang rotational brownout sa mga lugar na sini-serbisyuhan ng distribution utilities na nakakabit sa NGCP.

Ayon sa Energy department, malaki pa rin ang epekto ng mga nasira at biglang tumirik na power plant sa estado ng Luzon grid.

“(Sa ngayon) negative na tayo ng lampas 200-megawatts.”

Gayunpaman, kailangan daw magpatupad ng “manual load dropping” o rotational brownout para mapanatili ang integridad ng power system.

Inakyat na ng DOE sa ilang regulating agencies, tulad ng Energy Regulatory Commission ang sitwasyon.

NATAPOS na ni Direk Louie Ignacio ang shooting ng kanyang passion project titled AbeNida under BG Productions International.

Matagal nang pangarap ni Direk Louie na gawin ang kwentong ito na ang script ay isinulat ng award-winning writer-director na si Ralston Jover.

It took eight years before AbeNida came into fruition. Hinintay kasi talaga ni Direk Louie ang availability ni Allen Dizon na only choice niya to play the lead actor sa kanyang bagong masterpiece.

Bilib kasi si Direk Louie sa husay ni Allen at gusto pa niya to challenge him more kaya dito niya ipinagkatiwala ang papel ng eccentric na sculptor na mayroon mental condition.

For sure, happy si Direk Louie dahil natupad na rin finally ang dream niya na maidirek sa pelikula si Allen who won plenty of acting awards para sa indie film na Magkakabaung, including the highly-coveted Gawad Urian.

Masaya rin si Direk Louie na nakagawa na rin siya ng movie with Katrina Halili, who plays a dual role sa AbeNida. Nasa StarStruck palang si Katrina ay bilib na siya rito at matagal na rin niyang dream na maidirek ito sa pelikula.

Para kay Direk Louie, Katrina is an underrated actress. Mahusay ito at may ibubuga sa acting. It’s just a matter of finding the right acting project for her.

Ang wish nga niya ay magwagi ng acting award si Katrina for AbeNida. If that happens, Direk Louie will be very happy dahil he can bragging rights na sa movie niya nanalo ng award si Katrina.

Tutok na tutok si Direk Louie in all aspects of production ng movie, sa production design, cinematography, music, at acting ng mga artista. Gusto niya na maging maganda ang proyekto na nasa post-production work na.

Feeling ni Dennis C. Evangelista, ang line-producer ng AbeNida, ito ang best work so far ni Direk Louie.

Kasama rin sa cast sina Leandro Baldemor, Gina Pareno, Joel Lamangan at Laurice Guillen in rare acting jobs.

Ang AbeNida ang comeback movie ng BG Productions International after two years of inactivity.
