Filipinos love Madame Web!
Madame Web, the first superhero movie with a female lead in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, is the #1 movie in the Philippines this week, scoring a record-breaking PHP 10,402,829 on its first day. With a Valentine’s Day debut in 326 screens nationwide, the film holds the biggest opening day gross so far for 2024.
“There was an opportunity with this movie to reinvent a Marvel world where, first of all, it’s led by women, and it’s made by women,” says Dakota Johnson, who plays Cassandra Web / Madame Web in the film. “And because of that, the characters are real, and they are messy, and they are complicated, and they are extremely powerful.”

Roger Ebert’s Christy Lemire describes Madame Web as “blissfully breezy” and commends Johnson for bringing “a refreshing, grounded quality to her superhero vibe.”
Fox TV Houston gives kudos to the creative team behind the film, led by director SJ Clarkson, for creating “a visually stunning thrill ride” and “a thriller that must be seen on the biggest screen possible!”
“This is a fantasy noir about psychics and sisterhood,” says SlashFilm. “The future is Spider-Female, and Madame Web knows it.”
Madame Web, also starring Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor and Tahar Rahim, is now showing only in cinemas. It is distributed in the Philippines by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International. Connect with the hashtag #MadameWeb
