Sec. Lorenzana, pinabulaanan ang ulat na magkaiba sila ng ‘tono’ ni PDu30 sa usapin ng incursion ng China sa WPS
PINABULAANAN ni Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana ang ulat na taliwas ang kanyang mga pahayag sa mga naging pahayag ni Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte sa usapin ng incursion o pagsalakay ng China sa West Philippine Sea (WPS).
Aniya, ang naging kautusan ni Pangulong Duterte sa defense department hinggil sa WPS ay “firm and straightforward” at ito ay ang ipagtanggol ang pag-aari ng bansa na hindi maglulunsad ng giyera.
“President Duterte’s orders to us have been very firm and straightforward: defend what is rightfully ours without going to war and maintain the peace in the seas. Yung nagsasabi na hindi kami align ng Presidente ” ayon kay Sec. Lorenzana.
At bahagi aniya ng tinatawag na ‘long-standing and multi-faceted relationship’ ng Pilipinas sa China, sinabi ng Kalihim na kapuwa pinapanatili ng daawang bansa ang kooperasyon sa iba’t ibang larangan na ‘mutually beneficial’ sa mga Filipino at mga tsinoy.
“We can be cordial and cooperative with other nations but not at the expense of our sovereignty and sovereign rights,” dagdag na pahayag nito.
Giit pa ni Lorenzana sa kabila ng taglay ng China ang mas ‘superior military capabilities’ ay hindi naman aniya ito hadlang sa kanila para depensahan ang national interest at dignidad ng mga Filipino gamit ang lahat ng ‘available resources o assets.’
“Thus, the conduct of maritime patrol in the WPS and Kalayaan Island Group by the Philippine Coast Guard and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources will continue. The government will not waiver in its position. Walang alisan ,” ang pahayag ni Lorenzana.
Bukod dito, sa pinakahuling kaganapan aniya ay malinaw na kailangan na mayroong pangangailangan na ang lahat ng stakeholders ay makikipagtulungan.
“They can now take this as an opportunity to advance the values and principles we collectively affirm and profess to respect – including the peaceful settlement of disputes – as partners and as signatories to UNCLOS (United Nations Convention for the Law of the Sea) and all relevant international instruments,” anito.
Sa ulat, sinabi ni Lorenzana na waang legal na basehan ang China na pigilan ang Pilipinas na magsagawa ng maritime atrol sa WPS.
Wala aniyang basehan ang nine-dash line ng China na siyang ipinangangalandakan nito.
Giit ni Lorenzana, wala umano ito sa 1982 UNCLOS at pinawalang-bisa sa 2016 Permanent Court of Arbitration na pumapabor sa hirit ng Pilipinas sa mga exclusive economic zone (EZZ) sa South China Sea. (Daris Jose)
Indian Priest, humuling ng tulong at panalangin
Humiling ng panalangin si Indian Priest Fr. Loyola Diraviam ng Servants of Charity para sa mamamayan ng India.
Sa panayam ng Radio Veritas, sinabi ni Fr. Diraviam na lubhang nahihirapan ang marami sa kanilang komunidad dahil sa labis na pagtaas ng bilang ng mga nahawaan ng COVID-19.
“May I humbly request you to join your hands with us and pray for our brothers and sisters here in India who are getting infected and dying every day due to this covid 19,” pahayag ni Fr. Diraviam sa Radio Veritas.
Labis na ikinalungkot ng pari ang sitwasyon sa kanilang lugar lalo na ang mga pasyenteng inalagaan ng Nazareth Illam, Home for the Mentally ill na pinangasiwaan ni Fr. Diraviam.
Paglalahad ng pari nasa 70 indibidwal na may mental illness ang kanilang pinangalagaan sa center.
“The situation here is really hard and it is bad; India’s runaway coronavirus surge is getting worse. It is affecting young adults, families and has killed a lot of young priests and sisters without mercy who served the people during the pandemic in different ways,” ani ng pari.
Batid ng buong mundo ang hirap na dinanas ng India na pumapangalawa sa Estados Unidos sa may pinakamaraming kasong naitala sa halos 20-milyong kaso kung saan mahigit sa 300-libo ang naitalang bagong kaso sa loob ng isang araw.
Ikinalungkot pa ng pari ang kawalang sapat na lugar na paglilibingan sa mga pumanaw dahil sa virus kaya’t sinusunog na lamang ito sa itinalagang lugar.
Nangangamba si Fr. Diraviam sapagkat bukod sa pagprotekta sa mga may mental illness sa kanyang komunidad sa Thalavadi , Tamil Nadu, South India wala na rin itong sapat na pondo para sa pagbili ng mga gamot.
Hindi na rin kayang tugunan ng kanilang gobyerno ang pagbibigay ng gamot sa mga pasyente dahil sa kawalan ng suplay.
“Though we protect them from Covid, we have another problem that is the shortage of psychiatric medicines for our mentally ill patients. Due to shortage of funds, we don’t have enough medicines for our residents,” saad ni Fr. Diraviam.
Dahil dito bukod sa panalangin umapela ang pari ng tulong para sa mga inaalagaang inabandonang may mental illness.

KAHIT MAY PANDEMYA, ELEKSIYON TULOY
SA kabila ng pandemya dulot ng COVID-19, itutuloy pa rin ang 2022 presidential polls sa itinakdang petsa.
Ito ang sinabi Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez sa isang interview sa radyo.
Tiniyak ng poll chief sa publiko na gaganapin pa rin ang halalan sa May 9,2022 .
Sinabi pa ni Jimenez na walang dahilan para hindi matuloy ang halalan.
Inaasahan anang opisyal na gagawin ang halalan sa kalagitnaan ng pandemya kung saan hindi pa tiyak na maaabot ang herd immunity.
Samantala, sinabi ni Jimenez na ang bilang ng precincts para sa halalang 2022 ay 110,000 na mas mataas sa 84,000 precincts noong 2019 election kung saan ipatutupad ang social distancing.
Bukod sa paglalagay ng mga karagdagang presinto, sinabi ni Jimenez na posibleng palawakin ng Comelec ang absentee voting na nagpapahintulot sa mga indibidwal na bumoto nang maaga sa araw ng halalan, limitado lamang ito sa pagboto ng mga tumatakbo para sa pambansang posisyon.
Sa ganitong paraan ay mabawasan ang pagdagsa ng mga botante sa mga polling precincts at mas madali itong mapamahalaan. (GENE ADSUARA)
DPWH Delivers Support Infra to Healthcare System, Starts 110-Bed Hospital Project at Lung Center
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has stepped up to the challenges posed by COVID-19 by rapidly putting up infrastructure to support the healthcare system for the welfare of the Filipino people.
DPWH Secretary and Chief Isolation Czar Mark A. Villar revealed that as of end of April 2021, the DPWH has built 662 units of various health facilities with 24,513 bed capacity nationwide to support countrywide healthcare demand.
Secretary Villar said that capacity expansion is on-going at the Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP) compound in Quezon Avenue, Quezon City to cope with the increase in number of patients brought by the climb of case for people infected with COVID-19.
Secretary Villar together with his formed DPWH Task Force for Augmentation of Local/Health Facility headed by Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain inspected on Friday, April 30, 2021 the newly started modular hospital project at LCP which is in addition to the one (1) ICU type facility with 16-bed capacity turned over on November 2020.
In his briefing, Undersecretary Sadain said that the on-going project covers the construction of four (4) typical designed with 88 beds and one (1) intensive care unit (ICU) type modular hospital with 22 beds or a total of 110-bed capacity.
The project is extremely significant since the LCP received the most number of patients with respiratory conditions and these five (5) cluster units of off-site hospital will augment existing treatment facility for moderate, severe and critical COVID-19 patients, added Undersecretary Sadain.
Also present during the inspection are members of the DPWH Task Force Technical Working Group namely Director Aristarco Doroy and Assistant Director Edgardo Garces of the Bureau of Construction which supervises and implements the project and Mr. Alejandro H. Tengco of Nationstar Development Corporation.
DPWH has also completed ten (10) modular hospital projects with total capacity of 252 beds for COVID-19 treatment and 60 units of off-site dormitories as temporary shelter of about 1,456 healthcare workers. (Bishop Jesus “Jemba” M. Basco)

Robert Downey Jr’s Next Comic Book Project ‘Sweet Tooth’ Drops First Trailer
AFTER his iconic role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr. is now the producer of the TV adaptation of the DC Comics series Sweet Tooth.
The first trailer for his newest project Sweet Tooth just dropped, an adaptation of a DC comic which he is executive producing for Netflix with his wife Susan Downey and their production company Team Downey.

Based on the comics by Jeff Lemire, Sweet Tooth has been described as ‘Mad Max Meets Bambi’.
The eight-part series will tell the story of Gus (played by Legion star Christian Convery), a young boy who was born half human and half deer. He was raised in his sheltered home in the woods which he leaves to find that the world has been torn apart by a cataclysmic event.
10 years prior, the Great Grumble wreaked havoc and led to the emergence of hybrids just like Gus. It’s unsure whether the hybrids are the result or the cause of the spread of this virus, but these novel creatures are not safe in this new world.
Gus befriends a wandering loner named Jepperd (Game of Thrones‘ Nonso Anozie) who will turn into his protector as the two set out on an extraordinary adventure across what’s left of America in search of answers.
Also starring is Once Upon A Time‘s Dania Ramirez, who will be playing a pioneer character named Aimee who is trying to help rebuild a new society and give orphaned hybrids a safe home.
The Flash actor Neil Sandilands will play the show’s antagonist, General Steven Abbot, who leads a post-apocalyptic army with intimidation and quirkiness and uses the collapse of civilisation to reinvent himself and claim power.
Other cast members announced so far include Will Forte (Saturday Night Live), Adeel Akhtar (Les Misérables), and Christopher Convery (Succession), while James Brolin (Life in Pieces) serves as the narrator.

Kinilala ni Northern NCR Maritime Police head P/Major Randy Ludovice ang naarestong suspek na si Dominador Galido, 50, mangingisda at residente ng Brgy. Liminangcong, Taytay, Palawan.
Batay sa imbestigasyon ni PSSg Marcelo Agao, nakatanggap ng impormasyon ang mga tauhan ng Maritime police mula kay PLTCOL Glen Provido, Special Operation Unit (SOU) 2 Commander hinggil sa suspek.
Kaagad nagsagawa ang mga tauhan ng Maritime Police sa pangungun ni PLT Erwin Garcia ng surveillance/stakeout operation sa F/V Marlyd DLS 77 na nakadaong sa pier 2, Notas Fish Port Complex dakong 7:30 ng gabi.

DOH: 8,346 bagong COVID-19 infections sa Phl naitala; active cases pumalo na sa 71,472
Iniulat ng Department of Health (DOH) na aabot sa 8,346 ang bagong COVID-19 infections sa bansa, na mayroon nang kabuuang bilang sa ngayon na 1,054,983, hindi pa kasama ang datos mula sa pitong laboratoryo.
Ayon sa kagawaran, mula sa kabuuang bilang ay 71,472 ang total active cases, kung saan 94.7% ang mild, 1.9% ang asymptomatic, 1.1% ang critical, at 1.4% ang severe condition.
Samantala, ang kabuuang bilang ng recoveries ay tumaas din sa 966,080 matapos na 9,072 pang pasyente ang gumaling sa naturang respiratory disease.
Umakyat din ang death toll sa 17,431 kasunod nang naitalang 77 na bagong fatalities.
