‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ overtakes ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ at the global box office

JAMES Cameron has hit it out of the park all over again with his latest release Avatar 2.

It was just a few days ago we heard the news of the film crossing the $1 billion mark at the box office. Before we could blink an eye, The Way Of Water has hit the $1.5 billion milestone and surpassed blockbusters like Top Gun Maverick and Furious 7.

While Top Gun Maverick remained in the 11th position of Highest-Grossers of All Time, Furious 7 was officially a part of the Top 10. It was just yesterday when the film surpassed the collections of Frozen II ($1.450 billion) and gained the 12th spot.

As per the latest box office updates, Avatar 2 has garnered a total collection of $1.516 billion at the worldwide box office. Top Gun Maverick with earnings of $1.48 billion has been bid goodbye along with Furious 7 which is no longer in the Top 10 with its $1.515 billion collection.

That indeed is a huge mark to have been achieved by James Cameron and the team. But as they say, the game has just started! It is now to be seen how many more records Avatar 2 manages to break in its lifetime and where it lands on The Highest-Grossers of All Time list.

So far, that record is held by its predecessor Avatar with box office.

Eight years ago pa huling naka-work sa teleserye: CARLA, excited sa muli nilang pagtatambal ni GABBY at kasama pa si BEAUTY

EXCITED si Carla Abellana dahil sa muling pagtatambal nila na teleserye ni Gabby Concepcion na may title na ‘Stolen Life.’

Huli silang nagkasama ni Gabby ay sa teleserye na ‘Because Of You’ noong 2015. Kaya after 8 years ay balik ang tambalan nila na hinihintay ng maraming fans nila. At ang ka-love triangle nila ay si Beauty Gonzalez.

“Very excited and privileged to be working again with kuya Gabby. It’s been like 8 years na pala since we’ve worked together. It’s time na siguro to work again with him,” sey ni Carla na huling napanood sa teleserye na ‘To Have And To Hold’ at mapapanood soon sa ‘Voltes V: Legacy.’

Ang ‘First Lady’ naman ang huling teleserye ni Gabby at natuwa ito sa muling pagsasama nila ni Carla: “Nagulat ako na kami ulit ni Carla. I’m really happy because nag-enjoy kami sa Because of You.”

Si Beauty naman ay kasalukuyang napapanood sa ‘Mano Po Legacy: The Flower Sisters’ ay first time makakasama sina Gabby at Carla sa isang teleserye: “I’m so grateful ’cause I got to work with these two big stars of GMA. Finally it’s happening.”

Sa February na raw ang simula ng kanilang taping.

MULING magbabalik sa pag-arte sa isang teleserye si Judy Ann Santos.

Sa kanyang Instagram account, pinost ni Juday ang isang video clip ng paghahanda niya para sa isang shoot.

Sey pa niya sa video: “Back to work. Shooting for a series.”

Noong 2019 pa huling nagbida sa teleseryeng ‘Starla si Juday. Nag-guest din siya sa ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.’

Noong kasagsagan ng COVID-19 pandemic noong 2020, nag-host si Juday ng public service/documentary program na ‘Paano Kita Mapasasamalatan?’ Naging guest host naman siya sa morning show na ‘Magandang Buhay’ noong 2022.

Pinost din ni Juday ang ilang highlights ng buhay niya kasama ang pamilya at mga kaibigan sa nagdaang taon.

Pagrepaso sa K-12 program aarangkada ngayong Enero

SISIMULAN na ngayong Enero ang pagrepaso sa K to 12 program at sa buong basic education system sa bansa ng Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II).

Ayon kay Sen. Win Gatchalian, chairman ng Senate Committee on Education, may 10 taon ang binigay ng kongreso sa EDCOM II para pag-aralan ang buong educational system at para gawan sila ng rekomendasyon para mapaghusay at maiahon mula sa krisis.

Idinagdag pa ni Gatchalian na susuriin ng EDCOM II ang pagtupad sa mga batas na lumikha sa Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED) at TESDA.

“Sa pagbubukas ng 2023, agaran nating sisimulan ang maigting na pagsusuri sa estado ng edukasyon sa ating bansa. Sa pamamagitan ng EDCOM II, magpapanukala at magsusulong tayo ng mga repormang tutugon sa krisis na bumabalot sa sektor ng edukasyon,” giit pa ni Gatchalian.

Magsisilbi naman tagapayo ng EDCOM 11 ang legislation and policy advisory kung saan kabilang sa miyembro nito sina Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto at Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano.

Mula naman sa Academe kasapi rin sina dating Ateneo de Manila President Fr. Bienvenido Nebres and former University of the Philippines College of Social Sciences and Philosophy dean Dr. Maria Cynthia Rose Bautista.

Kailangang i-confine para sa medical assessment: KRIS, humihingi ng matinding panalangin para sa kanya at kay BIMBY

SA Instagram official fanpage account na @KrisAquinoWorld, nag-post ang Queen of All Media na si Kris Aquino tungkol sa in-upload na litrato nila ni Batangas Vice Governor Mark Leviste, kasama rin sina Joshua at Bimby, nang dalawin sila sa Amerika.

Mukhang hindi na-inform si Kris na ia-upload ito sa social media, pero na-appreciate niya ang gestures na ginawa nito kahit malayo kung saan sila nag-i-stay.

Inamin din niya na na kailangang nila ni Bimby na magpa-confine ilang ilang araw para sa medical assessment.

Sa naging komento ni Kris, “I’m curious, my friend Atty Donna sent me the screenshot — so ako na ang mag co-comment: kayo ni VG Marc keep in touch? Friends kayo? Obviously he was the 1 who sent you my pic (i wasn’t told he would).

“I’ve avoided posting any pics of myself because i’ve been privately chronicling my journey — hoping na after the many months na titiisin ko ang immunosuppressant therapy (i’ve researched all the warnings of how weak i’ll feel, the likelihood that i’ll have low grade fever, throw up often, weight loss, feel even more fatigued than i do now, and yung possibility that i’ll lose my hair- after all the medication is what’s given to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy- BUT for rheumatology patients yung dosage is about 15%) i’d be able to show all of you in a documentary- na hindi ako SUMUKO, sa lahat ng kinailangan pagdaanan, tinuloy ang LABAN.”

DOTr, CAAP walang obligasyon na i-compensate mga pasahero sa NAIA shutdown – Sec. Bautista

NILINAW ni Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista na walang contractual obligation ang DOTr at ang Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) na bigyan ng kumpensasyon o refund ang mga pasaherong apektado ng ilang oras na shutdown sa Philippine airspace na dulot ng aberya sa suplay ng kuryente noong Bagong Taon.

Ang pahayag ay ginawa ni Bautista kasunod na rin ng panawagan ni Albay Rep. Joey Salceda sa pamahalaan, partikular na sa CAAP, na i-compensate ang libu-libong pasahero na hindi nakabiyahe dahil sa power outage sa air traffic management system ng bansa.

Ayon kay Bautista, kailangang pag-aralang mabuti ang legalidad nang pag-compensate sa mga air travelers na naapektuhan ng airspace shutdown.

“Dapat pag-aralan natin ang legality nito ano,” pahayag pa ni Bautista, sa panayam..

“Unang una, ‘yung CAAP at saka DOTr wala kaming arrangement with the passengers, ‘di katulad ng airlines. Bumili sila ng ticket, merong obligation ang mga airlines na ilipad sila o i-refund ang kanilang pamasahe,” paliwanag pa niya.

Idinagdag naman ni Bautista na kahit hindi contractually obliged ang pamahalaan na i-compensate ang mga pasahero, maaari aniyang morally obligated naman ang DOTr at CAAP.

“Pero ang legality nito dapat pag-aralan mabuti dahil, ako hindi naman abogado, pero sa pagkakaintindi ko walang contractual obligation between the passengers and DOTr or CAAP,” aniya pa. “Dapat pag-aralan mabuti ng ating mga abogado para ano ba ‘yung dapat maging sagot ng gobyerno.” (BISHOP JESUS “JEMBA” M. DOTr: Aviation officials, mananagot sa nangyaring kaguluhan sa NAIA

NAGBABALA si Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista na mananagot ang sino man na mga aviation officials sa nangyaring air traffic management system breakdown na siyang naging sanhi nang paghinto ng operasyon ng mga airlines sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) noong nakaraang Bagong Taon.

“The DOTr will hold accountable each and every person responsible for the loss of communication and power at the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) that led to the fiasco at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Once we find out who the negligent persons are, who caused this problem to happen, they will be held accountable,” wika ni Bautista.

Habang bumalik na sa normal ang operasyon sa NAIA, nagbigay naman ng assurance si Bautista na ginagawa nila ang lahat upang hindi na mangyari ang ganitong pangyayari kung saan na kansela at naantala ang mga daang flights at naapektuhan ang 56,000 na mga stranded na pasahero.

Ayon sa kanya, ang nasabing equipment ay sinusuring mabuti kung dapat na itong palitan o di kaya magkaroon ng upgrading ang traffic management system sa CAAP.

Sa ngayon ay gusto ni Bautista na magkaroon ng upgrading ang electrical equipment sa CAAP upang masigurado na hindi na talagang mangyayari ang nakaraang insidente.

Nagbigay naman ang Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) sa DOTr ng kanilang tulong upang maging madali ang pagbili ng mga kailangan kagamitan sa CAAP upang tumaas ang efficiency ng CAAP sa pag- handle ng air traffic nito.

Samantala, ang National Security Adviser nasi Clarita Carlos naman ay nagsabi sa pamahalaan na dapat na ipahayag na ang communications at electrical facilities ng CAAP ay mahalaga sa pagbibigay ng proteksyon sa ating national security.

Sa pamamagitan ng ganitong declaration, ang CAAP ay magkakaroon ng mabilis na paraan upang mabigyan ng priority ang upgrading na kailangan.

Sinabi naman ng CAAP na walang posibilidad na ang management system ay inatake sapagkat ang mga electrical ports ay hindi kayang manipulahin sa labas ng CAAP.

Nangako naman ang CAAP sa mga security officials na kanilang ipasusuri sa mga cyber security experts ang mga pangyayari.

Kung kaya’t noong nakaraang pagpupulong na ginawa ng mga top-level officials ng DOTr kasama ang mga representatives ng DICT, Department of National Defense (DND), National Intelligence Coordination Agency (NICA), at Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines ay napagkasunduan na magkaroon ng upgrading ng mga existing facilities at upang magkaroon ng immediate replacement ng mga nasirang equipment. ‘Fruitful talks” kay Pres. Xi, Iniulat ni PBBM

INIULAT ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang mabunga at produktibong bilateral meeting nito kay Chinese President Xi Jinping sa Beijing.

Ang nasabing miting ay nakatuon sa “soft infrastructure, climate change, renewable energy, people-to-people ties at agricultural cooperation na kinabibilangan ng tinatawag na “durian protocol.”

“It has been a very wide-ranging discussion… the meeting ran very long, and that’s why I’m actually very optimistic because President Xi seemed to be genuinely interested in all of these issues and finding a way to move forward to again strengthen the relationship between China and the Philippines. I’m quite gratified that we had made a good start,” ang wika ni Pangulong Marcos sa isang panayam.

Naging mahaba, matagal at detalyado naman ang naging pag-uusap ng mga Asian leaders ukol sa climate change, inilarawan ni Pangulong Marcos bilang “a subject that we cannot leave alone or it will come back to haunt us in the future.”

Ayon sa Pangulo, mayroon din aniyang nag-aalok ng tinatawag na “soft infrastructure” pagdating sa aspeto ng digitalisasyon sa government bureaucracy at pagpapabuti sa connectivity sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng bansa.

“We had a very fruitful exchange of ideas and beginnings of a plan for moving forward… And we covered so many subjects, much more than as usual for these very formal meetings. We talked about the trade imbalance between our country and China and what we can do to remedy this,” ayon sa Pangulo.

Nagbunga rin aniya ang naturang pagpupulong ng “durian protocol,” nagtapos sa isang kasunduan para sa page-export ng durian sa China.

Kapwa naman sumang-ayon ang Maynila at Beijing sa isang “protocol of phytosanitary requirements” para sa pag- export ng fresh durian mula Pilipinas patungong China sa pagitan ng Department of Agriculture (DA) at General Administration of Customs ng China.

“Because they are opening their trade to imports of durian and other agricultural products from the Philippines so that we can redress the imbalance in our imports and exports from China,” ani Pangulong Marcos.

Pinag-uusapan din ng dalawang lider kung ano ang kanilang gagawin para “to move forward, to avoid any possible mistakes, misunderstandings that could trigger a bigger problem than what we already have.”

“And I was very clear in trying to talk about the plight of our fishermen. And the President (Xi) promised that we would find a compromise and find a solution that will be beneficial, so that our fishermen might be able to fish again in their natural fishing grounds,” ang pahayag ni Pangulong Marcos.

Binanggit din ng Punong Ehekutibo ang naging pagpulong nila ni Chinese Premier Li Kequiang at National Congress of the People’s Republic of China chairman Li Zhanshu.

“I met with the Premier, Premier Li, who I had met before in Cambodia. And we continued the discussions that we began there, which were essentially about the strengthening again of relationships between China and the Philippines,” ani Pangulong Marcos. (Daris Jose)

Pinas, China tinintahan ang 14 bilateral deals habang nasa state visit si PBBM

TININTAHAN ng Pilipinas at Tsina ang 14 na bilateral agreements, araw ng Miyerkules habang nasa state visit pa si Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa China.

Kabilang sa nasabing kasunduan ang agrikultura, imprastraktura, development cooperation, maritime security, turismo at iba pa.

Nilagdaan kapwa ng Pilipinas at Tsina ang joint action plan para sa taong 2023-2025 na may kaugnayan sa “agricultural and fisheries cooperation” sa pagitan ng Department of Agriculture (DA) at Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs ng China, at maging ang isang memorandum of understanding (MOU) ukol sa kooperasyon sa Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

“Launched in 2013 by Chinese President Xi Jinping, the BRI is a global infrastructure development strategy to invest in nearly 150 countries and international organizations, enhancing connectivity and facilitate smoother trade flows between Asia, Europe, and Africa,” ayon sa ulat.

Nagkasundo rin ang Manila at Beijing sa pag-handover ng sertipiko ng Philippine-Sino Center for Agricultural Technology-Technological Cooperation Phase III (PHILSCAT-TCP III).

Tinintahan din ng dalawang bansa ang MOU sa pagitan ng Ministry of Industry and Information Technology ng China at Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) hinggil sa digital at information and communications technology (ICT) cooperation ng Pilipinas.

Nagkasundo rin ang dalawang bansa sa protocol ng phytosanitary requirements para sa pag- export ng fresh durian mula Pilipinas patungong China sa pagitan ng DA at General Administration of Customs ng China.

Sinelyuhan din ang pag- handover ng sertipiko ng dalawang China-aid bridge projects sa Maynila, ang Binondo-Intramuros bridge at ang Estrella-Pantaleon bridge.

Kapwa rin sumang-ayon ang dalawang bansa sa framework agreement para sa Renminbi-portion ng loan financing para sa tatlong priority projects ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Apat na loan agreements din ang sinelyuhan para sa mixed-credit financing (US Dollar and Renminbi) ng tatlong priority bridge projects sa ilalim ng public works department.

Kapwa nagkasundo rin ang gobyerno ng Pilipinas at China sa implementasyon ng MOU ukol sa turismo sa pagitan ng Department of Tourism (DOT) ng Pilipinas at Ministry of Culture and Tourism ng Tsina.

Sinelyuhan din ng dalawang bansa ang MOU sa pagitan ng Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) at Ministry of Commerce of China ukol sa electronic commerce cooperation; isang MOU sa pagitan ng National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) at International Development Cooperation Agency on the Development Cooperation Plan 2023-2025 ng China; at isang kasunduan hinggil sa “economic and technical cooperation” sa pagitan ng China at Pilipinas.

Kabilang din sa listahan ang mutual recognition agreement sa pagitan ng General Administration of Customs ng China at Bureau of Customs (BOC) ng Pilipinas ukol sa authorized economic operator program, at isang kasunduan para sa pagtatatag ng communication mechanism ukol sa maritime issues sa pagitan Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) ng Pilipinas at Ministry of Foreign Affairs ng China. Libreng sakay posibleng maibalik ngayong 2023

INAASAHANG maibabalik ngayong taong 2023 ang libreng sakay, ayon sa Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Ayon kay LTFRB technical division head Joel Bolano na sa kasalukuyan ay inihahanda ng Department of Transporation ang guidelines para sa libreng sakay.

“May nakalaan namang budget para rito kaya lang sa ngayon pina-finalize pa ang guidelines ng department… Pero tama kayo, baka maibalik ang free ride kaya lang kung paano ito i-implement, wala pa tayong guidelines,” dagdag pa ni Bolano.

Magugunitang una nang inihayag ni Sen. Sonny Angara na nasa P2.16 billion ang inilaan para sa programa na lubhang mababa sa P12 billion na hiniling ng DOTr.

Kaya kailangan umanong madetermina ang mga lugar na makokoberan ng free rides dahil na rin sa limitadong budget, ayon pa kay Bolano.

“Magiging dependent ito kung saan aabutin nito (budget), kung Metro Manila lang ba o kung isasama ‘yung ibang original offices natin, probinsya,” dagdag pa nito.

Magugunitang ang EDSA Bus Carousel ay nagsakay ng libre simula pa noong Nobyembre 2020 makaraang i-subsidized ng pamahalaan ang pasahe ng mga commuters dahil na rin sa nagdaang pandemya. Nito lamang unang araw ng Enero nagsimulang maningil ang busway.

Nagbabayad ang pamahalaan ng nasa P10-P12 milyon araw-araw sa concessionaires para sa may 600 hanggang 700 buses na nakakapagsakay ng nasa 400,000 pasahero. (Daris Jose)

8 hindi pa bakunadong Pinoy mula China, nagpositibo sa COVID-19 – DOH

NAGPOSITIBO sa COVID-19 ang walong Pinoy na hindi pa bakunado kontra sa virus na galing ng China.

Ayon sa Department of Health (DOH), kasalukuyang sumasailalim sa isolation at patuloy na minomonitor ang walong indibidwal na dumating sa Pilipinas mula Disyembre 27, 2022 hanggang Enero 2, 2023 matapos masuri sa antigen test pagdating ng mga ito sa may Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Batay kasi sa kasalukuyang protocol, ang mga hindi pa fully vaccinated na mga indibidwal na walang naipresentang negatibong resulta ng pre-departure test ay sinusuri pagdating sa paliparan.

Sa kabila nito, tiniyak ng DOH sa publiko na ang gobyerno ay patuloy na nagsasagawa ng Covid-19 monitoring at surveillance activities sa bansa at binabantayan din ang mga global health events na maaaring mangyari.

Pinaalalahanan pa rin ang publiko na tumulong na maiwasan ang hawaan ng virus sa pamamagitan ng layer of proteksyon gaya ng sanitation , pagsusuot ng face mask, social distancing, maayos na bentilasyon at pagbabakuna bilang karagdagang proteksiyon.

Kasalukuyang nasa “heightened alert” naman ang Pilipinas sa gitna ng kasalukuyang pagtaas ng kaso ng Covid-19 doon sa China.

Kamakailan ay inatasan ng DOH ang Bureau of Quarantine na paigtingin ang quarantine protocols tulad ng heightened surveillance sa lahat ng respiratory symptoms sa lahat ng biyahero at conveyances na nagmumula sa China.

Ipinag-utos din nito ang mahigpit na pagsubaybay sa maritime declaration of health at Aircraft General Declaration.

Inatasan din ang mga concerned government agencies na iulat ang mga pasahero na mayroong nararamdamang sintomas na masusuri sa arrival screening gayundin ang mga covid-19 travelers mula sa points of entry ng ating bansa. (Daris Jose)
