“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” smashes its way to the top with a roaring $194-M global opening weekend

THE Titans are on top of their game as Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire gathered a monstrous $194 million worldwide on its opening weekend.

The epic monster mash sets the record for second-highest opening of the year, and stands as the third highest grossing movie of 2024 so far. A hit with fans, the film also garnered a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

A team-up for the ages, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire introduces a new threat to Hollow Earth: the villainous Skar King. Only the combined forces of the fearsome Godzilla and the massive Kong can hope to defeat Skar King and save mankind. Returning to helm the project from Godzilla vs. Kong is director Adam Wingard, and it stars Rebecca Hall, Bryan Tyree Henry, and Dan Stevens.

IGN notes the intense action that fans of the Titans will love. “Director Adam Wingard has a lot of fun with textures, colors, and camera work, and he’s adept at giving fans the over-the-top monster action that they demand via an imposing new villain,” they wrote. The Verge praises the fight scenes between the massive monsters, and the expressiveness of the Titans. “Kong and Skar King’s clashes in the Hollow Earth are brutal and cleverly shot in ways that almost make you forget how humongous the Titans are as you see them flying through the air, wielding their primal weapons. Kong’s expressiveness, in particular, helps The New Empire’s action feel emotionally driven because you can see him thinking things through,” they wrote.

The visual effects for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was praiseworthy for Empire, as they wrote, “The power-struggle that emerges between Kong and Skar King is beautifully rendered, and that it’s all communicated effectively sans dialogue is a testament to Weta’s increasingly impressive visual-effects work.” They also talked about how the film will satisfy audiences who are looking for a fun, action-packed thrill ride. “It’s hard not to watch it without a grin on your face,” they stated.

Export ng PH lumampas ng $100-B noong 2023 – DTI

IPINAGMALAKI ni Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Alfredo Pascual na sa unang pagkakataon, ang mga export ng Pilipinas ay lumampas sa USD 100 bilyon noong 2023.

Ayon kay Director Bianca Sykimte ng DTI- Export Marketing Bureau (EMB) na ang kabuuang taon na pag-export ng parehong mga produkto at serbisyo ay umabot sa USD 103.6 bilyon, na nagmarka ng 4.8% pagtaas mula sa nakaraang taon.

Aniya, malaki ang ambag sa paglago sa sektor ng information technology at business process management (IT-BPM) at ang mga kita sa turismo.

Aktibo ring nagsusumikap ang DTI upang mapakinabangan ang lakas ng sektor ng serbisyo at tugunan ang mga hamon sa pagluluwas ng paninda.

Kasama sa mga pagsisikap na ito ang pagpapalawak sa service industry sa pamamagitan ng pagpasok ng mga bagong merkado at pagpapalakas gaya ng nakabalangkas sa Philippine Export Development Plan (PEDP) 2023-2028.

Inihayag din ni Sec. Pascual na kanilang kinikilala ang patuloy na mga hamon sa domestic at global trading environment.

Kaya umaasa silang matugunan ang mga umiiral na hadlang sa pagiging mapagkumpitensya sa pag-export ng Pilipinas habang patuloy ipinapatupad ang PEDP para sa 2023 hanggang 2028. (Daris Jose)

Umabot sa Top 4 si Marina pero napauwi siya nang hindi siya magwagi sa lipsync showdown.

Naging first runner-up naman si Marina sa first season ng Drag Race Philippines noong 2022.

Lolo isinelda sa pangmomolestiya sa dalaginding sa Valenzuela

HIMAS-REHAS ang 82-anyos na biyudo matapos ireklamo ng pangmomolestiya sa 13-anyos na batang babae na miyembro ng pamilyang nag-alaga at nagpapakain sa kanya sa Valenzuela City.

Agad iniutos ni Valenzuela police chief P/Col. Salvador Destura, Jr. sa Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) ang pagsasampa ng kasong rape through sexual assault na may kaugnayan sa R.A. 11648 o ang Act Providing for Stronger Protection Against Rape and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, Increasing the Age for Determining the Commission of Statutory Rape sa biyudo.

Ayon kay Col. Destura, nagso-solo na sa buhay at walang mga kaanak ang suspek at dahil malapit siyang kaibigan ng pamilya ng biktima, sila na ang nangalaga at nagbibigay ng pagkain sa matanda.

Nitong araw ng Sabado, dinalhan ng pagkain ng biktima ang suspek subalit, bago makaalis ang bata ay pinapasok siya sa loob ng bahay ng matanda dahil may ibibigay umano sa kanya para naman sa kanyang pamilya.

Gayunman, nang nasa loob na ng bahay ang bata, sinimulan na siyang molestiyahin at paghihipuan sa maselang parte ng katawan ng matanda habang binubulungan ng mga malalaswang salita.

Sa kabila ng nadaramang takot, hindi pinanghinaan ng loob ang bata at nagpumiglas ito hanggang sa magawang makatakbo palabas ng bahay at agad na nagsumbong sa kanyang pamilya.

Kagyat na tugunan ang terorismo, cybercrime

INATASAN ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang bagong hinirang na Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Major General Rommel Francisco Marbil na tulungan ang gobyerno na tugunan ang mga sumusulpot na banta sa kapayapaan at kaayusan sa bansa.

Sa isang seremonya para sa PNP change of command na idinaos sa Camp Crame, Quezon City, sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos kay Marbil na “You have my full confidence and my full support, as you begin to champion a police that is pro-God, pro-country, pro-people, pro-environment. Let us work closely with you in addressing emerging threats, such as cybercrime, terrorism, and transnational crimes.”

Sinabi pa ng Chief Executive na kailangang tiyakin ng PNP ang “highest standards of professionalism” at magbigay ng pinakamahusay na serbisyo sa mga mamamayan.

“Let us now ensure that the PNP will be agents of progressive transformation in the lives of our people by ensuring the safety and well-being of every community in the land,” dagdag na wika nito.

Nasungkit ni Marbil ang pinakamataas na posisyon sa PNP matapos na opisyal ang pagreretiro sa serbisyo si General Benjamin Acorda, ngayong araw ng Lunes, Abril 1, tatlong buwan matapos na I-extend ni Pangulong Marcos ang kanyang termino.

Bago pa itinalaga si Marbil bilang hepe ng PNP, itinalaga muna ito bilang officer-in-charge ng Directorate for Comptrollership ng institusyon.

Nagsilbi rin si Marbil bilang police director of Eastern Visayas.

Araw ng Linggo, inanunsyo ng Malakanyang na itinalaga si Lieutenant General Emmanuel Baloloy Peralta bilang PNP officer-in-charge habang nakabinbin ang pag-exit ni Acorda subalit hindi naman nagtagal ay kaagad naman siyang pinalitan ni Marbil, kung saan ang designasyon ay inihayag sa seremonya sa PNP headquarters sa Camp Crame at pagkatapos ay nanumpa sa tungkulin sa kaparehong event.

Si Marbil ay pang-30 hepe ng PNP.

NAGPAABOT ng pagbati ang Kapuso actress at international fashion icon na si Heart Evangelista kay Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera na nagbabalik sa primetime sa pamamagitan ng ‘My Guardian Alien’ na nagsimula na noong Lunes, Abril 1. after ng ‘Black Rider’.

PBBM, lumikha ng Inter-Agency Committee para sa Right-of Way Activities para sa Railway Projects

LUMIKHA si Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ng isang Inter-Agency Committee for Right-of Way (ROW) Activities para sa National Railway Projects para i- streamline ang proseso ng land acquisition na kailangan para sa implementasyon ng lahat ng railway projects sa bansa.

“The Inter-Agency Committee for ROW Activities for National Railway Projects (Committee) is hereby created to study and devise an efficient and collaborative mechanism to streamline the process of land acquisition necessary for the implementation of all railway projects,”ang sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos sa pagpapalabas ng Administrative Order No. 19, may petsang Marso 25.

Kabilang sa kapangyarihan at tungkulin ng komite ay “coordinating the implementation of railway policies and projects, crafting and approving project-specific policies and programs, and identifying the appropriate services or programs concerning land acquisition and other ROW activities, such as livelihood, income restoration, and resettlement.”

Tutukuyin din nito ang mga epektibong umiiral na polisiya, kasunduan, kontrata at iba pang kahalintulad na arrangements sa pagitan at hanay ng mga ahensiya ng pamahalaan, i- consolidate at i-mobilize ang agency resources para i-streamline ang “budgeting, deliberate and resolve issues, grievance at create technical working groups” para ipatupad ang kautusan.

Itinalataga naman ng administrative order (AO) ang Kalihim ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) bilang chairperson habang ang pinuno naman ng Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development ang tatayo bilang co-chair ng komite.

Kabilang naman sa mga magiging miyembro ng komite ay ang Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG); Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD); Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR; Department of Finance (DOF); Department of Budget and Management (DBM); Department of Justice (DOJ); at Office of the Solicitor General (OSG).

Ang Philippine National Railway (PNR) ang magsisilbi namang Secretariat ng komite at dapat na mag-provide ng administrative at technical support sa body.

Pinahihintulutan naman ng Republic Act (RA) No. 10752, o “Right-of-Way (ROW) Act” ang gobyerno na “to acquire real property needed as ROW site or location for any national government infrastructure project through donation, negotiated sale, expropriation, or any other mode of acquisition.”

Sa ilalim ng Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028 ng administrasyon at 8-Point Socioeconomic Agenda nito, layon nito na paghusayin at ayusin ang Philippine transportation sector sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng “sustainable at affordable transportation options” na mag-uugnay sa mga komunidad sa economic, social at cultural centers.

Samantala, ang Metro Manila Subway Project, North-South Commuter Railway System, Mindanao Railway Project, at PNR South Long Haul ay kabilang sa mga pangunahing infrastructure projects ng administrasyon sa sektor ng transportasyon na naglalayong palakasin ang mobility, i-enhance ang connectivity at i- promote ang growth centers sa labas ng urban-industrial region. Pinas, nakahanda sa posibleng Anthrax outbreak-DA

TINIYAK ng Department of Agriculture (DA) sa publiko na nakahanda ang Pilipinas para sa anumang posibleng anthrax outbreak sa bansa.

Siniguro rin ng departamento na ang Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) ay may kakayahang mag-produce ng bakuna laban sa nakakahawang sakit.

auna rito, ipinag-utos ng Thailand na mahigpit na bantayan ang livestock matapos mapaulat ang anthrax outbreak sa Laos kung saan may 50 katao ang napaulat na tinamaan ng anthrax.

Nagkaroon na kasi ng outbreak ng anthrax sa Laos.

“Ang Bureau of Animal Industry ay may nakahandang anthrax vaccine, at importante lang na mabakunahan para ma-prevent ang pagkalat ng anthrax,” ayon kay Dr. Constante “Dante” Palabrica, assistant secretary for livestock ng DA.

Ang BAI, aniya pa rin ay mayroong “seed virus” kaya’t posibleng makapagproduce ang Pilipinas ng sariling nitong anthrax vaccine.

“Itong seed virus na ito ay Philippine seed virus so hindi ito nanggaling kung saan. We’re ready for that—the Department of Agriculture is ready,” aniya pa rin.

Sa kabilang dako, hinikayat naman ng DA ang mga magsasaka na kaagad na I-report sa provincial veterinarians ang mga pinaghihinalaang kaso ng anthrax infection habang ang gobyerno ay nagbibigay ng “free testing.”

Ang ilan aniyang palatandaan na ang hayop ay positibo sa anthrax ay kung ayaw ng mga itong kumain, may lagnat at nag-develop ng vesicles.

“Our government gives free tests on this, and actually the anthrax vaccine is given for free. Lahat nang ito ay subsidized by the DA’s budget,” ayon kay Palabrica.

Dahil ang anthrax ay maaaring maisalin o mailipat sa tao dahil sa “zoonotic in nature” nito, maaari aniyang maging dahilan ito ng pagkamatay ng isang tao na may comorbidity.

“Kailangan tawagan agad ang provincial veterinarian para ma-test agad, kasi zoonotic ito, pwede itong i-transfer sa tao. Any disease na zoonotic, especially kapag may have comorbidity, it can be fatal,” aniya pa rin.

Dahil dito, ang mga hayop na positibo sa infectious disease ay hindi na dapat kainin pa.

“Huwag nilang kakatayin iyon dahil nga zoonotic pwedeng ilipat sa tao, tumawag sa beterinaryo at nang ma-check nang husto. Mahirap naman na hindi na kumain ‘yung baka, anthrax na kaagad. Kailangan ng scientific and science-based analysis dito,” babala nito.

Tinuran pa ni Palabrica na ang Pilipinas ay mayroong isang bakuna lamang para sa anthrax.

“Well, as of now, there is only one vaccine for anthrax, kasi kailangan homologous, meaning kung ano ang tumama ‘yun din ang dapat ang i-produce, hindi tayo pwedeng kumuha ng ibang anthrax vaccine sa labas ng Pilipinas. Ang maganda [ay] mayroon tayong seed virus,” ang litanya nito.

Ang pagpapabakuna aniya ang tanging paraan para mapigilan ang pagkalat ng anthrax.

Nilinaw ni Palabrica na hindi naman mabilis na kumalat ang Anthrax, hindi katulad ng African Swine Fever (ASF), itinuturing na “highly contagious at deadly viral disease” na labis na nakaaapekto sa domestic at feral swine sa lahat ng edad.

Winika pa ni Palabrica na ang ruminants, malaking grupo ng herbivores na may four-chambered stomach, ang kadalasan na apektado ng anthrax.

“Kaya nga kapag namatay [due to anthrax] kailangan ibaon sa lupa kasi spores ‘to, eh. Spores na madaling maka-transfer sa ibang animals kaya kailangan ibaon ang mga namamatay ng anthrax,” ani Palabrica,” sabay sabing “This [anthrax] is an infectious disease so you will see viremia, kapag sinabing viremia sa veterinarian, umiikot sa buong katawan ng animal.”
