TOURIST VISA EXTENTION APPLICATION, BUMAGSAK NG 45 PORSIYENTO

BUMAGSAK ng halos 45 porsiyento  ang bilang ng mga naga-apply para sa tourist visa extension noong taon 2020.

Sinabi ni BI Commissioner Jaime Morente  na sa datos ng Tourist Visa Section (TVS) umabot lamang sa 240,276 ang bilang ng mga aplikante para sa applications for extension of stay ng mga turista na nangangahulugan na 44.67 porsiyento na mas mababa sa 434,251 na kahalintulad na mga aplikasyon na kanilang natanggap noong 2019.

Ayon kay Morente na inaasahan ang pagbagsak ng bilang dahil sa travel bans na ipinapairal dahil sa Covid 19 pandemic.

“International travel restrictions remain in place even as we anticipate a gradual lifting of these restrictions this year as the vaccines against COVID-19 begin to arrive,” the BI chief said.  “We hope that the tourism industry will finally rebound at least by the second or third quarter of 2021 and the Philippines will once again open its doors to foreign visitors,” ayon kay Morente.

Paliwanag pa ni Morente na dahil sa travel restriction ay bumagsak din ang visa extension fees kaya umabot lamang ng P1.3 bilyon ang nakolekta noong nakaraang taon kumpara sa P2.2 bilyon noong 2019.

Sinabi pa ni Morente na ang mga nakokolekta mula sa visa extension fees ay isa sa pinagkukunan ng pondo ng kawanian

“Despite the low numbers for 2020, we remain hopeful that the tourism industry can bounce back this year,” ayon pa kay  Morente. (GENE ADSUARA)
