Pag- boycott sa sesyon ng mga senador ay pag-abandona ng public duty

KINONDENA ng isang mambabatas si Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano at ang mayoryang senado dahil sa pag-boycott sa sesyon ng dalawang magkasunod na araw.

Ayon kay ACT Teachers Representative at Deputy Minority Leader Antonio Tinio, ang pagboykot ay pagpapakita umano ng double standard kung saan walang kinakaharap na consequences o kahihinatnan ang mga senador sa pagliban habang nakakaharap sa parusa at multa ang mga ordinaryong government workers kapag absent.

Dumalo ang lahat ng 11 miyembro ng Senate minority bloc sa plenaryo ng alas-3 ng hapon nitong Martes, Hunyo 2, subalit bigo naman ang majority senators na magpakita. Inimpormahan ni Cayetano ang Senate secretary na hindi dadalo ang mayorya.

“This is a shameless display of entitlement and hypocrisy. Ordinary government employees—teachers, health workers, civil service workers—face salary deductions and disciplinary action for unexcused absences. But senators? They boycott the Senate, refuse to work, and face absolutely zero consequences,” ani Tinio.

 “This boycott has nothing to do with defending the Senate or protecting democratic principles. It is purely about self-interest. For Sen. Alan Cayetano to remain as Senate President and for his allies to hold their positions.”

Sinabi ng mambabatas na ang ginawa ng mga ito ay pag-abandona ng public duty. Nanumpa aniya ang mga senador ng pagsisilbihan ang sambayanan at konstitusyon subalit, sa halip ay inabandona nila ang kanilang tungkulin dahil nanganganib umano ang kanilang posisyon.

“This is the ultimate betrayal of public service—putting narrow partisan interest above the people’s right to a functioning Senate. The Senate majority must end this boycott immediately. They cannot hold the institution hostage because of their own political crisis,” pagtatapos ni Tinio.
