VP Sara Duterte, nais iharap ng prosec bilang testigo sa impeachment trial

HINDI na ipiprisinta ng prosecution panel sa impeachment case laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte ang natitirang mga saksi kaugnay sa alegasyon ng maling paggamit umano ng VP sa confidential funds na nakapaloob sa article 1.

“We have decided to forego, your honors, not only with the witnesses subpoenaed for today but with all the remaining 15 witnesses,” pahayag ni private prosecutor Lorna Kapunan sa Senate impeachment court.

Nakatakda sanang iprisinta ng prosekusyon ang nasa 27 saksi sa nasabing article. Nasa total na 12 saksi ang naiprisinta ng prosekusyon.

“After a long meeting last night and towards this morning, just before this hearing, the prosecution both public and private prosecutors, have decided today…we have decided to forego, Your Honors, not only with the witnesses subpoenaed for today, but with all the remaining 15 witnesses,” dagdag ni Kapunan.

Inihayag pa nito na intensiyon ng prosekusyon na iprisinta mismo si VP Sara sa kanyang impeachment trial.

Nang tanungin ni Presiding Officer at Senator-judge Francis Escudero kung hihilingin nito na ipa- subpoena si Duterte, ipinaliwanang ni Kapunan na hindi pa nila hihilingin sa ngayon hanggang sa pagtatapos ng presentasyon ng ebidensiya at saksi sa lahat ng articles.

Sinabi naman ni lead defense counsel Atty. Sheila Sison sa ika-23 araw ng ipeachment trial na hindi maaaring i-comple ang VP na tumestigo laban sa kanyang sarili.

“This right is absolute and this is not only a simple right or a statutory right. This is a fundamental right. This is a right emanating from the Constitution itself and one that emanates from the guarantees under Article 3 of our 1987 Constitution,” pahayag nito.
