QC Mayor Belmonte, umaasang magtutulungan ang mga LGUs sa Metro Manila para maibsan ang pagbaha

NAGPAHAYAG si Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte na lubos siyang umaasa na ang mga Local Government Units (LGUs) sa Metro Manila ay magtutulungan upang mabawasan ang pagbaha.

Sa isang panayam na ipinalabas sa DZMM, sinabi ni Mayor Belmonte na ang Quezon City ay nagpapatupad ng mga plano at proyekto para sa sustainable development at climate resiliency.

Idinagdag ni Belmonte na ipinagbawal ng Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Quezon ang paggamit ng plastik, na inaasahan niyang matutularan din ng iba pang LGU sa kalakhang lungsod.

Mapapansin na ang akumulasyon ng mga plastic na basura at basura sa drainage at mga kanal ang isinisisi sa patuloy na pagbaha sa kalakhang lungsod.

Binanggit din ni Belmonte na ang pagtatayo ng ilang mga imprastraktura ng National Government ay maaaring nag-ambag sa matinding pagbaha sa ilang lugar sa Quezon City dahil sa malamang na pagbalewala sa natural na terrain ng mga daluyan ng tubig. Kabilang sa mga lugar na labis na naapektuhan ng pagbaha ay ang Commonwealth Avenue kung saan ginagawa ang MRT Line 7 at ang Araneta Avenue kung saan itinayo ang Skyway Stage 3.

Sinabi ni Belmonte na dapat isaalang-alang ng mga engineering company ang natural na terrain ng mga daluyan ng tubig bago pa man magsagawa ng kani-kanilang proyekto.

Idinagdag niya na hindi ito magagawa ng Quezon City nang mag-isa, idiniin na dapat magkaroon ng isang buong metropolis approach upang matugunan ang patuloy na pagbaha sa pamamagitan ng sustainable development na may nature resiliency at climate adaptation. (PAUL JOHN REYES)

SA isang vlog interview, pinabulaanan ni Megastar Sharon Cuneta ang rumors na ginamit niya ang anti-diabetic prescription drug na Ozempic para sa kanyang weight loss. Ayon kay Shawie, ‘di raw niya aabusuhin ang katawan niya sa paggamit ng naturang gamot dahil meron siyang heart condition at naka-maintenance medication siya since 2003. “I never went on Ozempic. I tried another medication once. I could not handle it. Anything that I couldn’t do for my own willpower and anything that made me feel artificially stopped. You know, my brain was like floating. I could not. 
 
“And like I said, I have a heart condition. My resting heart rate is like that of a jogger, presently jogging. So I’ve had maintenance meds since 2003. And I have two cardiologists who can attest to that. I can’t abuse my body that way.” Taong 2016 nang magsimula si Mega sa kanyang weight-loss journey. Lahat na raw ng diet na nauso ay sinubukan niya. “I made the decision to lose weight when I turned 50 in 2016. And because I had ruined my metabolism over so many years by going on crash diet after crash. Name the crash diet, I’ve done it and I ruined my metabolism because you would really drop weight so fast and then you don’t really want to accept it’s just water weight, and sometimes when it’s too much muscle, it’s too much muscle mass, and then the rebound would be more than what you lost and so fast. KASAMA pala si Nico Locco sa historical drama film na ‘Quezon’. 
Si Jericho Rosales ang gumanap na Manuel Quezon at si Mon Confiado naman ay si Emilio Aguinaldo sa pelikulang mula sa TBA Studios.
Ayon kay Nico, “I just finished a really big project called Quezon, with Jericho, yeah, and the guy from Game of Thrones, Iain Glen.
“I play Sergeant Johnson, who is the right hand of Iain Glen, who is Leonard Wood.”
Totoo ang karakter niya sa pelikula at hindi fictional.
“For real, he was his right hand talaga, so yung parang amazing part dito is lahat ng scenes ko was with Iain Glen.”
Ang pakiramdam ni Nico na makatrabaho sa maraming eksena ang isang Hollywood star?
“Amazing!”
“I had…ang dami e, ang dami naming scenes together.”
Kumusta ang first shooting day nila?
“It was medyo parang surreal in a way, pero sobrang down-to-earth si Iain, e.
“Very professional siya and very open siya sa collaboration, walang yabang or anything like that. Kasi akala ko Hollywood star yan e, Game of Thrones, baka medyo mahirap to work with kasi big time na, but actually open siya lahat.”
Napanood ni Nico ang ‘Game of Thrones.’
“Yeah, love ko yung character niya. It was surreal talaga and the amazing part is…actually nainggit yung buong cast sa akin kasi I have the most scenes with him. Si Jericho had one scene lang with Iain, si Mon had one scene with Iain. Lahat sila one scene lang.”
Nagkuwento rin ang male star tungkol sa bago niyang international film na ang shooting ay ginawa sa Toronto sa Canada.
Lahad niya, “It’s called The World Treated Me Kindly”. Yeah, it’s a feature film with a full Canadian cast, kasi part Canadian ako, hindi ako Canadian pero meron akong Canadian passport.”
“I am Italian, yeah, pure Italian. Well actually, I say that I’m pure Italian pero yung mom ko has a little bit of Filipino blood, half Filipino siya.” 
Romantic drama ang bagong pelikula ni Nico na siya ang male lead star.
“The female is Sierra Farnham. She’s a Canadian actress, sobrang magaling. 
“Nag-audition ako. It’s a pure Canadian production. Nag-self-tape ako dito sa Pinas. So sinend ko yung audition ko sa kanila and then, kasi iba sa ibang bansa e, it’s very higpit, e. 
“They have…ang daming steps. So nag-self-tape na parang general for everyone, tapos I had to do another self-tape na parang shortlist and then, once na-shortlist ako after that, nag-zoom ako with the director.
“So one-on-one with the director at si Sierra, kasama siya. So parang scene work, zoom-to-zoom and then, parang it’s very regimented. 
“Not like here in the Philippines where one audition, you have the role na di ba, especially sa US or Canada, you have to zoom.
“Tapos the director will give you a direction para makita nila if okay ka sa mga directions nila, kasi siyempre hindi mo nakita yung buong script, right? “Certain scenes lang, so yun, nag-zoom audition. 
“Ang haba ng process. Siguro it was a four-month process kasi big budget yung film. 
“So we shot…we just finished shooting, I was there for 17 days, so in April, so we started January.” 
Tapos na ang pelikula. 
“It’ll be shown later this year and then, they’re hoping to put it on W Network, it’s called sa Canada, streaming network sa Canada at Netflix, sana.”
“Wala sa Pinas. Walang plan sa Pinas. Walang Tagalog, international talaga.” 
Contract star ng Viva si Nico.
“Well, kasi yung contract ko is meron akong film contract with Viva, hindi siya specific to Vivamax, so it can be in general.”
Ano ang huli niyang VMX project?
“Last VMX was Kolektor, released in March this year, recent lang. With Aiko Garcia, Salome Salvi, Candy Veloso, sexy film siya.”
Ano ang mga sexiest scenes na nagawa na niya sa kanyang showbiz career?
“Siguro sa film na yan, sa Kolektor, puwet sa mukha, as in binuksan ko yung mga bintana,” at tumawa si Nico.

HINDI nakalimutang pasalamatan ni Dennis Trillo na nagwaging Best Actor sa katatapos lang na 8th EDDYS ng SPEEd noong Linggo, July 20, ang bumubuo ng ‘Green Bones’ sa pangunguna ng kanilang na si Zig Dulay nagwagi rin ng Best Director.

TIEZA, ipinagdiriwang ang mga partnership at kooperasyon
 
PINANGUNAHAN ng Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) ang kanilang kauna-unahang “2025 TIEZA-TEZMS Partners and Stakeholders Appreciation Night: Champions of Sustainable Tourism” noong Hulyo 21, 2025 sa Manila Hotel.
Layunin ng event na kilalanin ang matibay na ugnayan ng pampubliko at pribadong sektor sa pagsusulong ng sustainable tourism sa bansa.
Dumalo ang halos 200 panauhing tagapagtangkilik mula sa TIEZA Registered Business Enterprises (RBEs), ahensiya ng gobyerno, LGUs, at tourism stakeholders upang gunitain ang mga tagumpay at pagtutulungan.
Binuksan ang programa ni TIEZA Chief Operating Officer Mark T. Lapid sa pamamagitan ng isang mensahe ng pasasalamat at pagkilala sa mga katuwang na organisasyon. Binigyang-diin niya ang lumalawak na papel ng TIEZA bilang Infrastructure and Investment arm ng Department of Tourism.
“Ipinagmamalaki naming iulat na umabot na sa ₱225.7 bilyon ang kabuuang nakuhang investment commitments, at 131,805 ang inaasahang malilikha nitong trabaho. Patunay ito ng tumataas na tiwala ng mga mamumuhunan sa sektor ng turismo sa Pilipinas,” ayon pa kay COO Lapid.

Pagsuspinde sa SONA dahil sa masungit na panahon, depende sa Kongreso- OCD

SINABI ni Office of Civil Defense (OCD) officer-in-charge Raffy Alejandro na nakadepende sa Kongreso ang mga ‘contingency measures’ kung magkakaroon ng masamang panahon na matataon sa pang-apat na State of the Nation Address (SONA) ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., sa susunod na linggo.

Ang fourth SONA ng Pangulo ay nakatakda sa July 28 sa Batasang Pambansa compound sa Quezon City.

”Of course, we will depend on the protocol ng Congress po if they will suspend iyong SONA. But kami po… we are closely coordinating with the PNP po na magkaroon tayo ng orderly conduct ng flow ng mga pupunta sa SONA,” ayon kay Alejandro.

”So, kami po, ang mga areas na surrounding Congress ay hinahanda pa rin natin in case na magkaroon ng hindi magandang weather. So, in the event po na—or magkaroon ng suspension ng work or classes, tuluy-tuloy pa rin naman ang ating mga emergency responders na naka-standby in case na kailangan ng assistance during the SONA po,” dagdag na wika nito.

Ilang araw bago pa ang SONA, may ilang bahagi na ng bansa ang nakaranas ng malakas na pagbuhos ng ulan matapos na lumabas at iwan ng tropical cyclone Crising (international name: Wipha) ang Philippine Area of Responsibility nito lamang weekend.

Ang klase at trabaho sa gobyerno ay sinuspinde ng hanggang araw ng Miyerkules sa Metro Manila at ilang lalawigan sa Luzon at Visayas dahil sa matinding epekto ng Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

Nauna rito, ipinag-utos ni Pangulong Marcos na suspendihin ang pre-SONA preparations at inatasan ang mga tanggapan ng gobyerno na ituon ang pansin at tiyakin ang kaligtasan ng publiko sa gitna ng masamang panahon.

Unahin ang ‘ flood response’, hindi ang SONA- PBBM

KAAGAD na ipinatigil ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., ang lahat ng paghahanda para sa kanyang pang-apat na State of the Nation Address (Sona) na nakatakda sa araw ng Lunes, Hulyo 28 kasunod ng ulat na namataan na abala ang ilang DPWH personnel sa pagkakabit ng mga tarpaulins para sa nasabing event sa kahabaan ng ilang kalsada sa Metro Manila.

Sa isang kalatas na ipinalabas ni Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, sa ngalan ni Pangulong Marcos, na nasa Estados Unidos para sa kanyang three-day official visit, nagpahayag ng pagkadismaya si Pangulong Marcos sa sitwasyon. Binigyang diin na ang lahat ng mga pagsisikap ng pamahalaan ay dapat na ituon sa ‘flood response at relief operations.’

“Let me be clear: all Sona-related preparations are hereby ordered immediately suspended. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), along with all concerned agencies, must put full attention and exclusive focus on flood response and relief operations,” ayon kay Bersamin.

“The Presiden’s directive is to focus all efforts on ensuring the safety and welfare of the Filipino people, especially during times of crisis. All government agencies are expected to act accordingly,” aniya pa rin.

Sa kabilang dako, sa isang recorded video message, tiniyak ni Pangulong Marcos sa mga naapektuhan ng matinding pagbuhos ng ulan at mataas na pagbaha na paparating na sa kanila ang tulong mula sa gobyerno.

Hinikayat din ni Pangulong Marcos ang mga ito na sumunod lamang sa instructions mula sa kani-kanilang local government units (LGUs) para manatiling ligtas.

“To my fellow Filipinos, before we left Manila to go to the United States for an official visit with the President of the United States, President Trump, I had already given instructions to all our agencies to prepare for the flooding caused by the heavy rains,” ayon sa Pangulo.

Inanunsyo rin ng Chief Executive na inihahatid na ang relief goods at naka-standby naman ang medical team upang magbigay ng tulong sa mga nangangailangan.

“We are also making sure that transportation is available and of course, that there is an adequate supply of water and electricity—all of this is to meet the needs of those affected by the flooding and heavy rains,” ang sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos.

“My only request is that you please listen to the advisories issued by your LGU and the national government and kindly follow them so we can ensure that you are not put in danger,” aniya pa rin.

Samantala, mahigit sa 1.27 milyong pinoy ang apektado ng masamang panahon sa lahat ng 17 rehiyon sa buong bansa simula pa Hulyo 16. (Daris Jose)

Mga ospital, evacuation centers prayoridad para sa power restoration- DOE

IPINAG-UTOS ng Department of Energy (DOE) na iprayoridad ang ‘power restoration at maintenance activities’ sa mga mahahalagang lugar gaya ng mga ospital at evacuation centers habang nananalasa ang Tropical Depression Dante sa pinaigting na ulan nito bitbit ng southwest monsoon (habagat).

Sa isinagawang miting ng inter-agency Task Force on Energy Resiliency (TFER), inatasan ni Energy Secretary Sharon Garin ang Manila Electric Company (Meralco) na tumulong na tiyakin ang power supply, lalo na sa apat na ospital na tinukoy bilang ‘vulnerable’ sa matinding pagbaha.

Ang mga ospital na ito ay ang San Lorenzo Ruiz General Hospital sa Malabon, Tondo Medical Center sa Maynila, Valenzuela Medical Center, at Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center sa Marikina.

Ipinag-utos naman ni Garin sa Electric Power Industry Management Bureau (EPIMB) ng DoE na makipag-ugnayan sa Meralco “to conduct site inspections of the four high-risk hospitals and provide technical assistance to improve their flood-related electrical resiliency.”

Inatasan ang Meralco na tumulong na magbigay ng kailangang power supply sa Roman Tantiongco Memorial Elementary School sa Sitio Wawa, Barangay San Juan sa Morong, Rizal, ngayon ay ginagamit bilang isang evacuation center at nangangailangan ng isang generator set.

Upang masiguro na sapat ang fuel supply sa Metro Manila, hiniling naman sa Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) na tumulong na siguraduhin na ang tollways ay hindi magiging sagabal para sa paghahatid ng mga kakailanganing suplay mula sa storage facilities sa Subic, sa Zambales at Bataan.

Pinakilos naman ang National Electrification Administration (NEA) para imonitor at i-validate ang power status sa mga lugar na apektado ng weather disturbances.

“Off-grid areas were also checked and are continuously being monitored, including small communities that may face limited access to emergency services,” ayon sa DoE.

Pinaalalahanan naman ang National Power Corporation’s (Napocor) dam operations unit na magkaroon ng “proof of its compliance with existing dam spilling protocols, including but not limited to visual documentation that upholds safety thresholds.” (Daris Jose)

Marcos sa Pentagon: Thanks for help vs threats

PINURI ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., ang security alliance ng Pilipinas sa Washington bilang pangunahing dahilan sa “preserving the peace and stability of the South China Sea.”

Ang pahayag na ito ni Pangulong Marcos ay inulit naman ni US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth nang mainit na tanggapin nito ang una sa Pentagon.

Pinasalamatan ng Pangulo ang administrasyong Trump para sa “continuing support that we feel and that we need in the face of the threats our country is facing.”

Ani Pangulong Marcos, ang alyansa ng Maynila sa Washington ay nagkaroon ng “formed a great part in terms of preserving the peace, in terms of preserving the stability of the South China Sea.”

Bilang tugon, sinabi naman ni Hegseth na ang dalawang allied nations, “under President Trump and your leadership, [have] made rapid progress in enhancing real deterrence and upholding a free and open Asia-Pacific.”

Tinukoy na halimbawa ang suporta na ipinagkaloob ng Washington nitong mga nakaraang taon, ani Hegseth sabay sabing “We’re also deploying new cutting-edge missiles and unmanned systems and revitalizing our defense industrial bases.”

“Together, we must forge a strong shield of real deterrence for peace, ensuring the long-term security and prosperity for our nations,” aniya pa rin.

Kapwa naman walang binanggit sina Pangulong Marcos at Hegseth hinggil sa Tsina kahit pa tinukoy nila ang tensyon sa South China Sea dahil sa ‘expansionist claims’ ng Beijing, pagbuo ng artificial islands at pagpapatibay ng strategic reefs, at agresibong aksyon ng Tsina sa Philippine civilian, naval at coast guard vessels.

Muli namang tinukoy nina Pangulong Marcos at Hegseth ang 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty, nagbubuklod sa Pilipinas at Estados Unidos sa tanggulan ng bawat isa sa pagkakataon na may armadong pag-atake.

Sinabi ni Hegseth “This pact extends to armed attacks on our armed forces, aircraft or public vessels, including our Coast Guards anywhere in the Pacific, including the South China Sea.”

Binanggit din nito ang pinakabagong Balikatan joint military exercises noong May at nagpapatuloy na Talisman Saber exercise sa Australia na sinalihan ng puwersa ng Estados Unidos at Pilipinas.
