Administrasyong Trump, pinagtibay ang kahalagahan ng ‘trilateral cooperation’ sa Pinas, Japan

PINAGTIBAY ni US Secretary of State Marco Rubio ang commitment ng Estados Unidos na panatilihin ang trilateral cooperation nito sa Pilipinas at Japan sa ilalim ng administrasyon ni US President Donald Trump.

Muli itong inulit ni Rubio sa isinagawang bilateral meeting kasama si Japan’s Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi sa Washington DC noong Enero 22 (Manila time).

Sinabi ng Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, na “The two Ministers concurred on the importance of further developing coordination of like-minded countries, including Japan-US-Republic of Korea, Japan-Australia-India-US, and Japan-US-Philippines.”

Sinabi naman ng State Department na tinalakay ng dalawang opisyal kung paano ang Estados Unidos at Japan ay magkatuwang na magta-trabaho at kapit-bisig “to counter ongoing threats in the Indo-Pacific and around the world, including joint efforts against China’s destabilizing actions”.

Nauna rito, binigyang diin naman ng Tokyo ang pangangailangan para sa presensiya ng Estados Unidos sa Asya, lalo na sa gitna ng inilarawan nito bilang “increasingly severe strategic environment” sa rehiyon.

Sa kanyang naging pagbisita sa Maynila noong Enero 15, araw ng Miyerkules, sinabi ni Iwaya na ang trilateral Japan-US-Philippines relations ay “highly important framework” para maunawaan ang malaya at bukas na Indo-Pacific.

“Southeast Asia is located at a strategic pivot in the Indo-Pacific and is a world growth center, thus partnership with Southeast Asia is vital for regional peace and stability,” ang sinabi naman ni Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo.

“We will approach the next US administration to convey that constructive commitment of the United States in this region is important, also for the United States itself,” dagdag na wika ni Manalo.

Sa nasabi pa ring araw, muli namang pinagtibay ng mga foreign ministers ng QUAD member states na sina Rubio, Iwaya, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, at Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong ang kanilang “shared commitment to strengthening a free and open Indo-Pacific where the rule of law, democratic values, sovereignty, and territorial integrity are upheld and defended”.

Sa kanyang confirmation hearing, inilarawan ni Rubio ang naging aksyon ng Beijing sa Asia Pacific bilang “deeply destabilizing” at hinikayat ang Tsina na iwasan ng gumawa ng “anything rash or irrational” pagdating sa Pilipinas at Taiwan kung ito ay seryoso na gawing matatag ang US-China relations. PBBM, hindi hinahadlangan ang impeachment complaints laban kay VP Sara

HINDI hinahadlangan ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang proseso ng impeachment complaints laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.

Sa press briefing sa Philippine International Convention Center sa Pasay City, pinabulaanan ni Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin ang pahayag ng mga mambabatas mula sa Makabayan bloc sa Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso na di umano’y ang pakikialam ni Pangulong Marcos ang dahilan ng pagkaantala sa impeachment proceedings laban kay VP Sara.

“He (Marcos) is not blocking. He cannot do that because it is the discretion of the collective of the lower house. If they decide to initiate, there is no way of preventing that,” ang sinabi ni Bersamin.

Ipinahahayag lamang aniya ni Pangulong Marcos ang pananaw nito sa impeachment move subalit hindi dinidiktahan ang Kongreso na ipagpaliban ang proseso ng reklamo.

Sinabi pa niya na may karapatan ang Kongreso na mag-endorso ng impeachment complaints laban kay VP Sara.

“You know, that under the constitution, the impeachment must emanate from the lower house, okay? Now, if the President has made the statement at all, about that process, it is only an opinion that he stated because he probably the thinking of the President is that might be distracting us from our agenda or our move forward,” aniya pa rin.

“We cannot dictate on the lower house. It is co-equal, belongs to a co-equal branch of government. All we were saying, the President was saying to the lower house, this is my position,” ang sinabi ni Bersamin.

Matatandaang, sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos na hindi ito pabor sa anumang balakin na i-impeach o patalsikin sa puwesto si VP Sara dahil maaapektuhan umano ang trabaho ng mga kongresista at senador.

Sinabi pa ni Pangulong Marcos na hindi ikagaganda ng buhay ng mga Pilipino ang pag-impeach kay Duterte.

Kinumpirma rin ni Marcos ang text message na hinikayat niya ang mga mambabatas na huwag maghain ng impeachment complaint laban kay VP Sara.

Sa ulat, ang posibleng paghahain ng impeachment complaint laban kay Duterte ay bunga ng hidwaan ni VP Sara kina Marcos at pinsan nito na si Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Sa Kamara nagmumula ang reklamong impeachment, na kapag naaprubahan ay dadalhin sa Senado upang “litisin” ang opisyal na nais tanggalin sa posisyon.

Ang mga impeachable official sa bansa ay ang Presidente, Bise Presidente, mga miyembro ng Supreme Court, mga miyembro ng Constitutional Commissions, at ang Ombudsman.

Bukod sa usapin ng kung papaano o saan ginamit ni Duterte ang kaniyang confidential funds na iniimbestigahan ng mga kongresista, naging kontrobersiyal ang isiniwalat ng bise presidente na may kinausap na siyang papatay kina Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, at Romualdez, kung may masamang mangyayari sa kanya. SA recent na pakikipag-usap namin kay Sam Verzosa natanong kung paano ang relationship niya with the Lord; paano siya magdasal?

Dito niya naikuwento ang isang pangyayari habang nag-iikot siya sa kalakhang Maynila bilang parte ng pagtakbo niya bilang Alkalde ng Maynila.

“Alam niyo po, napakaganda…sobrang…habang nag-iikot po ako sa Baseco, namimigay kami ng mga rice, napunta ako sa isang dead-end na eskinita.

“Maliliit na ito na mga kalye sa Baseco, sabi nila huwag na ako dumaan, pero may nagsabi sa akin na huminto ako at pumunta ako.

“So naglakad ako, sinuyod ko, habang sinusuyod ko yung eskinita sa Baseco namimigay ako, may tumawag sa akin na tao.

“Sabi niya, ‘Sir, daan po kayo sa church namin’, so in the middle ng pag-iikot ko sa Baseco, dinala po ako sa isang Christian church at sa kalagitnaan nun, nagdadasal sila, nagwo-worship sila.

“Nakapikit yung pastor, nagdadasal, yung how to overcome our problems, na pagpasok ko pati ako nadala dun sa sinasabi ng pastor, na kasi ako kahit papaano hindi naman ako perpekto, may dinadala rin ako minsang bigat, may problema na nasa puso ko. “Nung narinig ko yung pastor, kahit papaano nawala yung bigat sa puso. “Tapos napunta ako dun ng walang plano.”

Sino ang humila sa kanya?

“Isang tao lang. Random lang. Sabi niya, ‘Mayor SV, daan po kayo sa simbahan namin’, so ako naman, kasi pahila siya e, kaya ako napasama. Pagpasok ko, yun na, hanggang nagulat siya, hanggang dinasalan nila ako. “Alam ninyo, iyak ako ng iyak kanina.

“So nakapikit lang ako habang dinadasalan nila ako. “Habang umiikot daw ako, sana hindi lang ako yung nakikita ng mga tao, kundi yung Diyos, yung Panginoon, ang nakikita ng tao, pag umiikot ako at tumutulong ako, talagang kinilabutan ako e.

“Iyak po ako ng iyak.

“Tapos ito pa, nahatak na naman ako ng isang leader dun na nagpapagawa ng isang simbahan.

“At nangako ako, sabi ko, ako magpapatapos nitong simbahan na ‘to sa Baseco, sabi ko, tatapusin natin ‘to in how many months.”

Mga ilang percent na ba ang simbahan?

“Wala. Wala pa, halos hollow blocks pa lang e. Sabi ko tatapusin ko ‘to, kasi nasa dulo na ‘to e, sa may Baseco beach. So, sabi ko, dinala ako ng Diyos dun for a reason.”

INIHAYAG na noong Huwebes, ika-23 ng Enero sa Los Angeles ang mga nominasyon para sa 97th Oscars.

Ang musical crime drama na ‘Emilia Pérez’ ay nangunguna sa lahat ng mga pelikula na nakakuha ng 13 nominasyon, kabilang ang makasaysayang pagkilala para kay Karla Sofía Gascón, ang first transgender performer sa kasaysayan ng Oscar na hinirang para sa Best Actress.

Habang ang ‘Emilia Pérez’ ang nangibabaw sa mga nominasyon, mayroong hindi pagkaka-nominate kay Selena Gomez para sa Best Supporting Actress, na kung saan sa naturang kategorya siya hinirang ng British Academy of Film and Television Awards at ng Golden Globes.

Samantala, ang historical epic na ‘The Brutalist’ at musical na ‘Wicked’ ay parching nominado para sa 10 Oscars, habang ang Bob Dylan biopic na ‘A Complete Unknown’ at papal thriller na ‘Conclave’ ay may tig-walong nominasyon.

Ilang naman unang beses na nominado sa Oscars ay sina Sebastian Stan ay nakakuha ng nominasyong Best Actor para sa ‘The Apprentice’, habang si Jeremy Strong ay nakakuha ng Best Supporting Actor para sa naturang pelikula. Ang iba pang mga first-time nominees sa kategoryang Best Supporting Actor ay sina Yura Borisov (Anora), Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain) at Guy Pearce (The Brutalist).

Kabilang sa mga first-time nominees sa Best Actress category sina Gascón, Mikey Madison (Anora), Demi Moore (The Substance) at Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here).

Maglalaban naman para kanilang unang Oscars sa kategoryang Best Supporting Actress sina Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown), Ariana Grande (Wicked), Isabella Rossellini (Conclave) at Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez).

Ang nominasyon ay inihayag nina ‘Wicked at ‘Saturday Night Live’ star na si Bowen Yang at ‘Saturday Night’ star na si Rachel Sennott.

Nauna nang inanunsyo ng CEO ng AMPAS na si Bill Kramer at President Janet Yang na ang seremonya ng Oscars ay tuloy pa rin para sa Linggo, Marso, 2. Hinihikayat rin nila sa mga manonood na sumali sa mga relief efforts kasunod ng malawakang pagkawasak na iniwan ng mga wildfire.
