SONIC the Hedgehog 3 is now showing in Philippine cinemas!

The latest installment in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise, which opened in the US and other international markets over the Christmas holidays, has earned raves from audiences and critics alike. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 currently has a Rotten Tomatoes audience rating of 96%, and 87% from critics (the highest in the series).

Featuring an all-star cast that includes Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, Idris Elba, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter and newcomer Keanu Reeves, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is a must-watch. Check out some things to look forward to in the latest big-screen adventure of Team Sonic.

Team Sonic

Since the first film, Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) has evolved from an alien outsider looking for connection to a member of a close-knit family and a hero in the making. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 saw him bond with new friends Knuckles (Idris Elba) and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) to form a team of superheroes, who combine their special skills to battle evil. In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the trio plus their foster parents, Tom and Maddie (James Marsden and Tika Sumpter, respectively), are challenged by new adversaries and new responsibilities that raise the stakes to unprecedented heights. The trio’s different personalities and abilities not only lend to fun (and funny!) moments on screen, they also make it easier for audiences to empathize and relate with the characters.

Keanu Reeves as Shadow

“Shadow was introduced in a game called ‘Sonic Adventure 2,’” notes director Jeff Fowler of the movie’s new antagonist. “He quickly became every bit as popular as Sonic. He’s stronger than Knuckles, and faster than Sonic. That sets the table for an amazing rivalry.”

On Keanu Reeves (The Matrix, John Wick film series) voicing the fan favorite character, the director couldn’t have said it better: “It is a perfect match. Shadow is John Wick in hedgehog form, which is a total contrast with Sonic.”

In bringing back Jim Carrey for Sonic 3, it was important to give him a great arc that covers the three films, says producer Toby Ascher. And that arc includes Carrey playing his old character Ivo Robotnik and Ivo’s equally treacherous 110-year-old grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, the engineer of Shadow’s evil intentions. The producers decided that no one could play Gerald better than the man who plays his grandson.

Fortunately, Carrey was up for the challenge. “It’s one of the most special parts of the movie,” says producer Neal Moritz. “When I watch the two of him in scenes together, I literally feel like I’m watching two different people.”

More action!

An antagonist that’s faster than Sonic and stronger than Knuckles, and assisted by not one but two Robotniks. Super-powered action sequences. Fights in outer space. “With each film, we want to raise the bar on spectacle and action set-pieces that really live up to what the games have established,” says Fowler. “We will always stay faithful to the things fans love, though, because they are the reason we’re here today.”

The films, which combine animation and live-action, have one significant advantage over pure live-action, according to co-writer Pat Casey. “We can go so big,” he explains. “In live-action, if you want a helicopter crash, the producers might say we can’t afford that. But on this movie, we could do anything, including blow up the moon! Jeff’s a visual genius so we can be sure that whatever we write, he will make it look awesome. We decided to send Sonic not just around the world but into space. The things that happen would be impossible in a live-action movie, but thanks to the genius of visual effects, Jeff, and a talented stunt team, it came out great.”

Adds Carrey, “This thing is so huge, you won’t believe it’s about a hedgehog. But you can’t argue with the fan base. If it’s hedgehogs they want, it’s hedgehogs they’ll get.”

Comedy and humor

Co-writer Josh Miller says another key to the popularity of the films is the balance he and Casey strive to strike between fun and action. “A sweet spot that blends them both is always on our minds when we get together with Jeff and the producers to plan a new story,” he says. “Anthropomorphic animals lend themselves to humor, but we have to make the jokes good while still taking the story seriously. It’s important to find ways to have big, exciting, colorful action equal to what you see in big special effects movies — but always hang on to that inherent silliness.”

In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic, Knuckles and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before. SB19 fans, puwede nang mag-refund: REGINE, inaming na-disappoint na ‘di matutuloy ang guesting ni STELL

“WELL I’m a little disappointed but……..

see you guys,” ito ang Instagram post ni Asia’s Songbird Regine-Alcasid last Wednesday dahil sa isang nakaka-sad na balita.

Hindi na kasi matutuloy ang guesting ng SB19 member na si Stell Ajero sa series of Valentine concert na “RESET” na gaganapin sa Samsung Performing Arts Theater sa Circuit Makati sa February 14, 12, 21, at 22.

Marami kasing na-excite sa magiging collab sana nina Regine at Stell on stage sa isang gabi ng concert.

In-announce pa ni Regine sa naganap na mediacon ng magiging special guest niya si Stell sa February 21.

Naglabas na ng official statement ang producer ng “RESET” na si Cacai Velasquez Mitra ng iMusic Entertainment (iME), na hindi na nga tuloy ang guesting ng SB19 member at isa sa mga coach ng “The Voice Kids” sa GMA.

“Miscommunication” at “scheduling conflict” ang ibinigay na dahilan ng producer sa naturang isyu.

Kasabay nito, humingi ng paumanhin ang iME sa lahat ng bumili ng tickets na looking forward sa pagsasama nina Regine at Stell on stage.

“We regret to inform you that Stell, who was scheduled to perform at our upcoming concert, RESET, on February 21, 2025, will not be able to attend due to a scheduling conflict.

“This unforeseen issue arose from a miscommunication by our production manager. Unfortunately, we were unaware of this situation at the time of the press conference and announcement.

“It was only afterward that all parties involved were able to resolve the misunderstanding regarding the scheduled guest appearance.

“We understand that many of you were looking forward to seeing Stell perform live with Regine at the concert, and we share in your disappointment.

“Please know that we are equally saddened by this unexpected change and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience it may cause.

“In light of this situation, we are committed to ensuring a fantastic experience for all attendees. We will offer refunds to any fans who purchased tickets in the hope of seeing Stell perform live with Regine.

“Please note that only tickets purchased from the time of the press conference announcements up until today (January 14-15, 2025) are eligible for a refund for the February 21, 2025 show.”

Nadadamay sa problema sa basura: ISKO, angat pa rin sa survey at posibleng makabalik sa Manila City Hall

ISA sa matunog na tatakbong kunsehala sa district one sa Tondo, Manila ay ang social media personality, negosyante, at tumatakbo na si Rosemarie Tan Pamulaklakin o Rosmar.

Ilang days after filing her candidacy ay panay ang ikot ni Rosmar sa Tondo pero lately ay hindi na siya visible particularly sa district kung saan siya tatakbo.

Matandaang last election ay sa Sampaloc area tumakbo and Luz Valdez bilang kunsehala pa rin si Rosmar.

Tatakbong independent si Rosmar na naging matunog ang pangalan months ago pero sana sa actual filing period sa March ay isa sa anim na papasok sa survey si Rosmar.

Mas pinagkaabalahan pa yata ni Rosmar ang pag-iikot sa Bulacan at sa iba pang lugar kaysa Tondo kung saan marami anc naghahanap sa kanya.

Pero ang latest dalawang buwang buntis ang negosyante.

At kailangan daw niya munang magpahinga kahit nasa maayos siyang kalagayan pati na ang baby sa kan/iyang sinapupunan.

Nag-spotting kasi si Rosmar kamakailan lang at itinakbo sa emergency room ng ospital.

“Regarding sa post ko na nagpunta ako sa ER. Nagulat ako na nag-trending na naman. ‘Di lang siguro clear ang post ko kaya na-misinterprent na naman ng iba,” saad ni Rosmar sa post niya.

“Mismong ospital ang nagsabi na pwede lang magpa-ultrasound kung magpapa-ER ako,” dagdag pa niya.

Ayon pa rin kay Rosmar siya raw mismo ang nag-request na magpa-ultra sound

“kaya ako nag pa ultrasound nung araw na un dahil may ‘spotting’ ako at buntis ako. Kahit sino naman sigurong nanay o buntis kung may spotting dederetso agad ng ER at gusto makita kung safe ang baby sa tyan at kakabahan lalo na kung first trimester and that day ko lang din nakita na may baby na at may heartbeat na,” banggit pa rin niya.

Sa isa pang post ni Rosmar ay ipinakita niya ang resulta ng ultrasound sa kanya na nasa maayos na kondisyon ang anak nila ng asawang si Jerome Pamulaklakin.

“I Love You baby bunso. Buti nalang malakas si mommy at di para magpa apekto sa mga taong malulungkot ang buhay. Bubuo tayo ng masaya at kumpletong pamilya,” lahad pa rin ni Rosmar.

STILL on politics, matunog pa rin ang labanang Isko Moreno at Honey Lacuna.

Ang problema sa basura sa buong Maynila ang isyu ngayon sa dalawang mahigpit na magkakalaban.

Sa nakaa-angat sa mga surveys na si Yorme Moreno isinisi ni Mayora Honey ang naging problema ngayon na basura sa Maynila.

Pero ayon pa rin sa kampo ni Yorme bakit after two years nang nakaupo sa City Hall si Mayor Lacuna ay idinawit pa raw nito si Yorme sa problema sa basura.

Pero sa totoo lang, dahil sa basura, na sinasabing naging basurero ang isang Isko Moreno ang naging daan ng dating mayor sa showbiz at napasok sa mundo ng pulitika.

Hindi kaya dahil din sa problema sa basura ay maibalik muli ang Manila City Hall kay Yorme.

“Wolf Man” pays homage to classic monsters and body horror with its practical and visual effects

BRINGING the Wolf Man to life is a monumental feat, and wanting to honor the original 1941 classic of the same name, director Leigh Whannell channels inspiration from horror history. “If you think about that look that was created for Boris Karloff’s Frankenstein in 1931 or Lon Chaney’s Wolf Man in 1941, those were things that audiences had never seen,” Whannell says. “Those images have lasted because they’re so striking. Anybody dealing with monsters today lives in the shadow of these artists. Every makeup artist whose name is etched into the Hall of Fame—from Rick Baker and Rob Bottin to Stan Winston and Jack Pierce, all these artists have created something brilliant that sticks in your mind.”

Wolf Man follows the Lovell family as Blake Lovell, patriarch of the family, slowly transforms into the iconic monster as his wife Charlotte and daughter Ginger try to survive the night and go through the turmoil of watching a loved one transform into a beast on the hunt.

As the film features such an enduring horror icon, Whannell pays tribute to 80s monster horror. The team applied as many practical effects as possible to keep it grounded and visceral. “When you’re working in supernatural horror, a lot of the horror is implied,” Whannell says. “It’s what you can’t see that’s scary. I wanted to make my own version of a creature feature. This film is my tribute to the ‘80s movies I loved growing up—ones that were driven by practical effects and told horror stories that were creative in their use of bodily morphing. In The Thing and The Fly, CGI was not yet an option.”

In the film, the main character, Blake Lovell, has no clue that he is transforming through the night. That type of body horror, and the fear of painful and terrifying anatomical changes is what director Whannell leaned into. As his skin begins to scale and his extremities elongate, our hero grows in confusion. “Blake loses his ability to understand what human beings are saying,” Whannell says. “Blake’s vision changes, then the physical changes begin, and his vision begins to alter. His skin morphs: his fingernails and teeth come out. It’s a tribute to body horror. That’s one of the great sub-genres of horror that I love. Our bodies are the source of all our pain, as well as our joy.”

Wala ring problema sa billing ng ’Sessionistas’: ICE, thankful na natuloy at sold out na ang pre-Valentine concert

MARAMI nga ang nag-aabang sa upcoming pre-Valentine concert na “Love, Sessionistas” na binubuo nina Ice Seguerra, Juris Fernandez, Princess Velasco, Sitti Navarro, Kean Cipriano, Duncan Ramos at Nyoy Volante, lalo na ang kani-kanilang fans.

Sa almost 3 hours ang concert, tiyak naman may kanyang-kanyang solo ang pitong Sessionistas at highlights para nga sa kanilang tagahanga.

Plus ang pagsasama-sama nila sa production numbers, tulad ng ginagawa nila sa ‘ASAP’.

Ang “Love, Sessionistas: A Pre-Valentine Concert” na gaganapin sa The Theater at Solaire sa February 8, 7 p.m. ay mula sa direksyon ni Ice.

Pagkukuwento niya sa pagdidirek sa mga kaibigan…

“When we were doing the repertoire, may mg amabilis sumagot, may ibang napakabagal, nagsara na ‘yung repertoire hindi pa rin nagbibigay kung anong kakantahin nila.

“Ako naman ay naniniwala na of course, friendship is friendship but of course you have to be professional.

“When it comes to that, I’d like to think that I can be professional at punumpuno naman ng respect sa artistry ang bawa’t isa.

“Ang maganda kasi sa show na ito, we made sure na may inputs ang bawa’t isa. They’re all artist may kanya-kanya silang kaalaman, may kanya-kanya silang star power, and gusto ko itong concert na ito ay to represent each other’s expertise, kung baga may ilalagay kami ni Liza dito pang-break lang.

“Ako rin as an artist, I don’t wanna do something that I’m not comfortable with, so ito masasabi ko na halos lahat sa amin except for one (Kean) comfortable sa gagawin nila,” mahabang sagot ni Ice.

Pagdating naman sa billing ay pinatanong daw ni Ice sa asawang si Liza Diño kung sino ang mauuna at sino ang mahuhuli at wala namang naging problema.

“Siguro that’s one thing I love about this group siguro kaya we really love to work together because there’s no ego. We’re all confident sa sari-sarili naming mga talent pero pag magkakasama kami, all ego left out of the door parang ang goal is to have fun, to have good music and be happy,” pahayag pa ni Ice na sobrang happy dahil natuloy na rin ang pagsama-sama nila sa isang big concert.

Say naman ni Nyoy nu’ng nagkatanungan daw tungkol sa billing ay hindi kumibo ang lahat, “Parang lahat nag-freeze, we didn’t want to tackle that. Parang, ‘puwede ba wala na lang ‘yan?’ Unfortunately, siyempre as professional artist kailangan pero kung tatanungin, lahat walang sumagot kasi ayaw pag-usapan.”

Sabi naman ni Kean, “Parang gets na rin ng mga agency namin na kung sinuman ‘yung mga kasama namin ngayon sa mga karera namin ay ito ‘yung project na gusto talaga naming gawin. Gagawin namin ito na hindi ‘yung may bahid na dapat ganito-ganyan, hindi ganu’n. Sabi nga ni Ice walang ego na involved.”

Nagpasalamat din ang lahat na ang Fire and Ice ang producer ng “Love, Sessionistas” dahil hindi mangyayari ang show at maganda ang pakikipag-usap sa bawa’t isa.

Samantala, nilinaw ni Ice na nagpaalam din sila sa “ASAP” dahil ginamit nila ang Sessionistas bilang titulo ng concert at pangalan na rin ng grupo nila.

“Nagpaalam ako sa kanila. We have a very small industry and as much as possible we don’t want to burn bridges and Malaki ang respeto naming sa ABS-CBN especially sa ASAP because sila ang nagbuo sa amin, eh at na-excite nga sila for us,” pahayag pa ng OPM Icon.

Personal din nilang inimbita ang mga executives ng Sunday show para manood ng concert at lahat naman ay nagsabing manonood ng one night show sana, pero dahil sold out na, magkakaroon ito ng second night sa April 4.

Nag-inquire din sila sa management nina Richard Poon at Nina, pero hindi raw sila available. May pre-Valentine concert din si Nina sa February 7, kaya imposible talaga na mapasama siya.

KAHIT na kakahiwalay pa lang ni Jak Roberto sa relasyon nito kay Barbie Forteza, hindi ito naging hadlang sa kanyang sinimulan na negosyo.

Sa ‘Pera Paraan’ with Susan Enriquez, na-feature ang skin care products for men ni Jak na puwede ring gamitin ng mga babae.

Taong 2023 nang simulan ng Sparkle hunk ang kanyang JC Essentials.

HINDI maitanggi ni Sofia Pablo na naninabago siya sa ka-loveteam na si Allen Ansay nang makita itong mag-topless sa isa sa mga eksena nila para sa Afternoon Prime series na ‘Prinsesa ng City Jail.’

Isa sa mga eksena na ipinakita sa trailer ng naturang serye ay ang pagkalunod ng karakter ni Sofia na si Princess sa swimming pool. Matapos itong makita ay sinagip ni Xavier (karakter ni Allen) si Princess.

Paliwanag niya ay noong nag-look test sila para sa eksena ay naka-rash guard lang sina Allen at Radson Flores kaya’t nagulat siya nang makita silang naka-topless na sa mismong araw ng taping.

SA Santa Barbara, California nakatira si Oprah Winfrey kaya malayung-malayo ito sa panganib ng wildfire na tumupok sa maraming communities sa Southern California.

Pero nagkaroon din ng nakakatakot na experience ang Queen of Talk sa sunog nang magkaroon ng wildfire sa Lahaina, Hawaii noong August 2023.

Nataon daw na nasa kanyang property sa Hawaii si Oprah noong mangyari ang wildfire na kumitil sa buhay ng 102 people.

“At the time, the smoke covered the sun and half the sky. None of us could imagine the apocalypse of death and destruction that would come,” pag-alala ni Oprah.

Agad nga raw nagpadala ng tulong si Oprah para sa mga nasa evacuation centers sa Los Angeles at iba raw na nandoon ay kanyang mga kaibigan. May iba raw na pinasundo niya at pansamantalang nakatira sa kanyang bahay sa Santa Barbara.

“I’m preparing dinner for people whose lives have been affected by the fires and are taking respite at my home.

“We will be giving thanks for the refuge many have been able to find after being forced to leave their homes; praying for those having to process unimaginable loss; and expressing our gratitude to the firefighters who continue to put themselves in harm’s way. I hope that, if you can, you’ll do the same,” sey ni Oprah.

130 non-conforming weighing scale, sinira sa Valenzuela

WINASAK ng Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Valenzuela sa pangunguna ni Mayor WES Gatchalian ang 130 non-conforming weighing scale na nakumpiska mula sa iba’t ibang pamilihan sa lungsod sa isinagawang operation timbangan.

Ang inisyatiba ay naka-angkla sa pambansa at lokal na mga batas na kumokontrol sa paggamit ng mga kagamitan sa pagtimbang sa mga pampublikong pamilihan.

Ang Republic Act No. 11706, o ang “Timbangan ng Bayan Act,” ay nag-uutos sa pagtatatag ng Timbangan ng Bayan Centers sa mga pampubliko at pribadong pamilihan upang mabigyan ang mga mamimili ng paraan ng pag-verify ng mga instrumento sa pagtimbang.

Ang mga lalabag sa batas na ito ay maaaring maharap sa mga parusa mula ₱50,000 hanggang ₱300,000, pagkakulong ng isa hanggang limang taon habang ang paulit-ulit na mga paglabag ay maaaring kanselahin ang mga business permit.

Ang lungsod ay ipinapatupad na ordinansa, ang Ordinance No. 903, Series of 2021, na kilala rin bilang New Market Code ng Valenzuela City na nagpapataw ng multa mula ₱5,000 hanggang ₱15,000 sa mga vendor o establisyimento na makikitang gumagamit ng tampered o non-compliant weighing device.

Binigyang-diin ni Mayor WES ang kahalagahan ng fair and honest trade practice. “Hindi po rason ang pagmahal ng bilihin, dahil lahat naman po tayo ay naghahanap-buhay, importante po na tayo ay tapat sa ating gawain. Dito po sa Valenzuela, ang pinaiiral natin ay disiplina, ayaw po nating pinagsasamantalahan ang ating mga consumer. Dapat po natin silang protektahan, bilang bahagi ng ating misyon na pagandahan ang ating environment dito sa lungsod.” pahayag niya.

Ang pagsira sa mga nakumpiskang timbangan ay magsilbing daan upang turuan ang mga nagtitinda sa pamilihan tungkol sa wastong paggamit at pagpapanatili ng mga kagamitan sa pagtimbang.

Samantala, nagsagawa naman si Mayor Wes, kasama ang Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) ng surprise inspection sa Karuhatan Public Market para suguraduhin na tama at walang daya ang mga gamit na timbangan ng mga nagtitinda. (Richard Mesa)

PHILHEALTH may sapat na pondo para sa bagong benefit packages

SINIGURO ng mga opisyal ng Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) sa mga mambabatas na may sapat itong pondo para sa bago at pinalawig na health benefit packages.

Ang paniniguro ay ginawa ng mga opisyal ng PhilHealth sa pangunguna ni President at Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Ledesma Jr., sa pagdinig ng House Committee on Health na pinamumunuan ni Batanes Rep. Ciriaco Gato Jr. ukol sa pagtaas ng benefit packages nito.

Sinabi ni Gato na makakakuha ang mga PhilHealth members ng bago at expanded health benefit packages na nagkakahalaga ng P271 billion.

Inihayag naman ni PhilHealth finance officer Renato Limsiaco Jr., sa pagtatanong ni Appropriations acting chairperson at Marikina City Rep. Stella Luz Quimbo kaugnay sa cash-on-hand ng ahensiya, na ang PhilHealth ay mayroong P492 billion nitong Dec. 31, 2024.

Dagdag nito, ang P203 billion ay kokolektahin sa direct contributors mula sa private sector atgovernment ngayong 2025. nitong 2024, ang actual collection base sa PhilHealth’s cash position report ay P178.5 billion mula sa direct contributions at P9.6 billion mula sa indirect contributions.

“That’s the entire picture. But the bottom line is we really have more than enough to fund your corporate budget of P280 billion. And if I remember it correctly last hearing, (you said) that you intend to spend P244 billion for benefit (packages),” ani Quimbo.

Klinaro naman ni Ledesma na ang pondo para sa benepisyo ngayong taon ay nasa P271 billion, na inaprubahan ng PhilHealth Board.

“So P271 billion is the total new number for total expected benefit packages in 2025,” pahayag ni Quimbo.

Ayon kay Limsiaco, ang P284 billion corporate budget sa 2025 ng Philhealth ay hinati sa P271 billion para sa benefits expense; P12.5 billion paea sa administration and personnel services; at P200 million para sa maintenance at iba pang operating expenses. (Vina de Guzman)
