Sa harap mismo ni PBBM: Raul Villanueva, nanumpa na sa tungkulin

OPISYAL nang nanumpa sa kanyang bagong tungkulin si Raul Villanueva bilang Associate Justice ng Korte Suprema, araw ng Martes, Hunyo 10, 2025.

Sa harap mismo ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ay nanumpa si Villanueva para sa kanyang bagong tungkulin. Isinagawa ang oath taking ceremony sa Kalayaan PBS Hall, Palasyo ng Malakanyang. Kasama ni Villanueva ang kanyang pamilya.

Sa kabilang dako sa maikling mensahe ng Pangulo, sinabi nito na kumpiyansa siya na sa pagkakatalaga kay Villanueva ay magpapatuloy ang maganda at mas magiging malapit ang relasyon ng Korte Suprema at Ehekutibong Sangay ng pamahalaan.

“We are very happy for this appointment because it is as our new justice was saying, and I was telling him that it is a well deserved appointment. He has a wealth of experience as a as a judge, an RTC judge, until 2002, and then he has from 2002, and since 2010, he has worked in the Supreme Court. and there therefore he is well versed in all that needs to be done for the proper and smooth function of the court,” ayon sa Pangulo.

“And besides that, we have begun a trend between the Supreme Court and the executive of a closer relationship in the past couple of years,” aniya pa rin.

“And I know that the appointment of our new justice will continue that trend and bring the departments of Government even closer than before, and so that the function of government is smoother, better, and that we are unified in our goal to making life better for all Filipinos. We all have our part to play, and justice, you have a new part to play,” ang sinabi pa rin ng Pangulo.

Sa kabilang dako,bago ang pagkakatalaga, si Villanueva ay ang Court Administrator ng Supreme Court, na nangangasiwa sa higit 2,600 hukom at 25,000 court personnel sa Pilipinas.

Nagtapos si Villanueva ng AB Economics (1985) at Bachelor of Laws (1990), sa University of the Philippines, Diliman.

Naging Presiding Judge rin si Villanueva sa iba’t ibang Regional Trial Court, Deputy Court Administrator, Chair/Vice-Chairperson ng iba’t ibang komite, kabilang ang tatlong Bids and Awards Committees ng SC, at professorial lecturer sa Philippine Judicial Academy, at Vice‑Chairperson ng Court Management Department nito.

Samantala, ang Associate Justice ay isa sa mga pinakamataas na opisyal sa Korte Suprema, na bahagi ng 15 miyembrong Supreme Court en banc. (Daris Jose)
