NANAWAGAN si Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte ng proteksyon para sa mga mamamahayag laban sa banta at pananakot.

Ang panawagan ng Pangulo ay bahagi ng kanyang mensahe sa pagdiriwang ngayon ng World Press Freedom Day.

“This year’s theme affirms the nature of news and information as a public good that must be utilized effectively to achieve their intended benefits. Moreover, the messenger itself, the press, must be protected from all forms of threat and intimidation so that they may fully serve the best interest of our people,” ayon sa Pangulo.

“Let us continue to use the power of communication in nation-building and ensure the integrity and safety of the press. Together, let us nurture a better informed citizenry and realize a brighter future for everyone,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

Tinukoy ng Chief Executive ang ‘free and responsible press’ na may mahalagang gampanin sa pagsulong ng lipunan.

“In this digital age where information is created and shared rapidly, the work of both traditional and emerging media requires a stronger commitment in upholding truth and accuracy,” aniya pa rin.

“My warmest greetings to all journalists and media practitioners here in the Philippines and around the world as we celebrate World Press Freedom Day,” ang pahayag pa rin ng Pangulo.

Samantala, ang ranking Pilipinas sa World Press Freedom Index na isinagawa ng Reporters Without Borders ngayong taon ay bumaba sa 138th place mula 136th noong 2020. (Daris Jose)
