Price ceiling sa bigas, band-aid solution lamang

Tinuligsa ni House Deputy Minority leader at ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. France Castro ang takdang pagpapatupad ng price ceiling sa bigas na isang pansamantalang solusyon sa malaking problema sa presyo nito.

Ayon sa mambabatas, hindi dapat pansamantala lamang kundi isang mas komprehensibong solusyon ang ipatupad sa problema.

“The release of Executive Order 39 by Malacañang is a clear indication that inflation is expected to rise this month due to the exorbitant prices of rice and other commodities. The government allowed the price of rice to skyrocket to P50 to P60 and even more per kilo before imposing the price ceiling, which is already within its mandate,” ani Castro.

Ilan sa mga solusyon ani Castro na maaaring gawin at iatuad ng pamahalaan ay ang pagbuwag sa rice cartel na binubuo ng mga oportunistang importers, traders, at businessmen na may koneksyon umano sa Department of Agriculture, na nagmamanipula sa suplay at presyo ng bigas sa local market.

Hinikayat din nito ang pagbasura sa RA 11203 o Rice Liberalization Law (tariffication) at ang pagbabalik ng mandato ng National Food Authority na direktang bumili ng malaking suplay mula sa magsasakang pinoy.

Nanawagan din ang mambabatas sa mga magsasaka at mamamayan na ipaglaban ang kanilang karapatang pangkabuhayan sa pamamagitan ng sapat na suporta at subsidiya para sa sektor  ng akrikultura.

“There is an urgent need for a comprehensive and sustainable solution to the rice problem in our country. We must prioritize the welfare of our farmers and the accessibility of affordable rice for every Filipino,” pagtatapos ni Castro.
