PBBM, naghirang ng bagong envoys sa Commission on Appointments

NAGHIRANG si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ng pitong bagong Philippine envoys, ayon kay Surigao Del Sur Rep. at Commission on Appointments Assistant Minority Leader Johnny Pimentel.

Sinabi ni Pimentel na nagpalabas si Pangulong Marcos ng nominasyon noong Hunyo 2 , at ”all were formally received by the Commission on the same day.”

Sinabi ni Pimentel na ang mga nominado ay sina:

Evangeline Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq – Philippine Permanent Representative to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Jakarta, Indonesia;

Bernadette Therese Fernandez – Ambassador to South Korea;

Maria Teresa Almojuela – Ambassador to Germany;

Alan Deniega – Ambassador to Poland, with concurrent jurisdiction over Lithuania and Ukraine;

Gines Jaime Ricardo Gallaga – Ambassador to Bahrain;

Marlowe Miranda – Ambassador to Lebanon; and

Arvin De Leon – Ambassador to Mexico, with concurrent jurisdiction over the Caribbean nations of Cuba and the Dominican Republic, as well as the Central American countries of Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama

Tinukoy ni Pimentel na hindi katulad ng ad interim appointments – na kaagad na nagiging epektibo kahit pa nakabinbin ang kumpirmasyon, ang mga nominado ay hindi maaaring mag-assume ng kanilang tungkulin hangga’t hindi nila nakukuha ang pahintulot ng Komisyon.

Idinagdag pa ng mambabatas na kapwa ang assignment ng ambassadors at promosyon sa ranggo ng senior foreign service officers ay nangangailangan ng CA approval.

Nakasaad sa 1987 Constitution na “25-member CA is mandated to assess the competence, integrity, and fitness of key presidential appointees, with the authority to either confirm or reject them.”

“Confirmation hearings serve as an important safeguard, ensuring proper oversight of the President’s power to appoint officials to critical diplomatic posts,” ayon kay Pimentel.

Ang CA ay binubuo ng 12 miyembro mula sa Senado at mula sa Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso, ang Senate President ang magsisilbi bilang ex-officio presiding officer nito. ( Daris Jose)
