PBBM, hinikayat na ipawalang-bisa ang free tuition law, palawigin ang voucher program

HINIKAYAT ng advocacy group na  Foundation for Economic Freedom (FEF) ang administrasyong Marcos na ipawalang-bisa ang Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, na naglalayong magbigay ng libreng tuition para sa mga state universities at colleges.

 

 

Sa isang virtual forum kung saan tinalakay ang State of the Nation Address (SONA) ni Pangulong Ferdinan Marcos Jr., Ipinanukala ni FEF president Calixto Chikiamco sa administrasyong Marcos ang ilang structural reforms kung saan maaaring malagay ang bansa sa  “sustainable growth track.”

 

 

Isa na rito ang rebokasyon o pagbawi sa  Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act na nilagdaan ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte upang maging ganap na batas noong Agosto  2017 at naging epektibo noong academic year na 2018-2019.

 

 

Naniniwala si Chikiamco na mas makabubuting magbigay ng  scholarships sa mga ‘underprivileged students’ dahil na rin sa ang mga nage-enroll sa state institutions ay mula naman sa  middle at upper-middle classes.

 

 

“I think we need to repeal the Free Tertiary Education Act or the Free College Tuition Law. Studies have shown that it has not been inclusive, that actually, those enrolling in state institutions are from middle class and upper-middle class,” ayon kay Chikiamco.
