Panukalang alisin ng ERC ang 12% value-added tax (VAT) na kasalukuyang ipinapataw sa system loss charges, pinapurihan

PINAPURIHAN  ni Marikina 2nd District Rep. Miro Quimbo ang Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) sa panukalang polisiya na alisin ang 12% value-added tax (VAT) na kasalukuyang ipinapataw sa system loss charges.
Sa ilalim ng draft resolution ng ERC, hindi na isasama ang system loss charges sa taxable gross receipts ng generation companies maging ng National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
Nasa proposal din ang pagre-require sa mga distribution utilities na linawing tukuyin na ang system loss ay isang hiwalay na item sa electricity bills ng consumers.
“I commend the ERC for this move. This is the product of sustained consultation between Congress and the Commission, and we appreciate the ERC’s initiative to act on an issue that directly affects consumers. This is government working together to remove costs from electricity bills wherever we can. At a time when every peso matters, even seemingly small reductions can provide meaningful relief to Filipino households and businesses,” ani Quimbo.
Una nang inihain ni Quimbo ang House Bill No. 10602 na nagsusulong na alisin ang 12% VAT na ipinapataw sa system loss charges.
“There is no value in energy that is not consumed. We should not be taxing consumers for electricity that never reached their homes or businesses in the first place,” ani Quimbo.
Sa ilalim ng ERC proposal, ang pagtanggal sa VAT ay maipapatupad sa sandaling naisapinal na ang resolusyon at kumpirmahin ng Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) ang kaukulang tax treatment.
