THE Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) and representatives from The Walt Disney Company, Southeast Asia met on Monday, October 13, to explore a potential collaboration to promote responsible viewing on streaming services among Filipino families.
Present during the meeting were MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto, Executive Director II Roberto Diciembre and Board Members Maria Carmen Musngi and Katrina Ebarle.
Representing The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia were Vineet Puri, General Manager, Southeast Asia; Shruti Mehta, Assistant Chief Counsel, Head of DTC; and Karan Paul and Jennifer Arceo, Senior Managers, Integrated Marketing Philippines.
During the discussion, The Walt Disney Company presented the Disney+ content rating system and parental control features, including the Junior Mode, designed to help parents manage and guide the type of entertainment their children have access to.
Sotto welcomed The Walt Disney Company’s initiatives, noting that such features align with the Board’s campaign on “Responsableng Panonood” and the principles of PROTECT, a set of parental tips that guide parents and supervising adults in raising smart and responsible media consumers.
“We are happy to see streaming platforms like Disney+ taking an active role in protecting young audiences and promoting responsible viewing,” said Sotto.
The meeting also opened opportunities for co-developing initiatives that encourage values-driven and family-oriented entertainment, while strengthening the culture of digital safety and responsibility among Filipino households.
“Engaging in constructive meetings like this strengthen our shared goal of creating a safer and more values-driven media environment for Filipino families, especially for Filipino children,” Sotto added.
As MTRCB marks its 40th Founding Anniversary, the agency reaffirms its commitment to protecting viewers while promoting a vibrant, responsible and inclusive media and entertainment industry in the digital landscape.
