House justice committee, bubusisiin ang Quiboloy extradition request

NAKATAKDANG magsagawa ng motu proprio inquiry ang House Committee on Justice na pinaumunuan ni Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro kaugnay sa extradition request ng Estados Unidos para kay pastor Apollo Quiboloy, upang linawin ang "insufficiencies and ambiguities" sa naturang proseso.


Ang gagawing imbestigasyon ay base na rin sa written request mula kay Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña, na humihikayat kay Luistro na magsagawa ng inquiry in aid of legislation sa kaso ni Quiboloy.


"There is an overwhelming public interest and concern over the process by which extradition requests are received, evaluated, and acted upon. It is imperative that Congress, through your Committee, provide a forum where concerned agencies may clarify the status of the present request, explain the legal and procedural steps involved, and identify any gaps or ambiguities in our existing laws and treaties," nakasaad sa liham ni Cendaña na binasa ni Luistro sa isinagawang organizational meeting ng komite.


Pormal na nagmosyon si Committee vice chairman at Bukidnon Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores para gawin ang imbestigasyon na naaprubahan matapos na walang humadlang mula sa mga miyembro.


Dalawang batas ang inaasahang tatalakayin ng komite, ang 1994 extradition treaty a pagitan ng U.S. at Pilipinas at ang PD 1069 o Philippine Extradition Law na isinabatas noong 1977. 


Ayon sa mambabatas, ang dalawang batas ay "silent" sa ilang usapin na siyang kailangang malinawan.
