Four Films for MMFF 2025 secures MTRCB ratings

IN line with its mandate and continued support for Filipino films, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has begun reviewing the film entries for the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

Under the leadership of Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto, the Board has released age-appropriate ratings for four out of eight entries to the 51st MMFF.

The romantic “I’mPerfect,” directed by Sigrid Bernardo under Nathan Studios, received a G rating (General Audience), making it suitable for all ages. The film centers on the romantic relationship of two adults with Down syndrome.

According to MTRCB’s Committee report, “People with down syndrome have the same fundamental rights as anyone else to form romantic relationships, make choices about love and pursue happiness. They may need support, protection and education to navigate relationships safely and respectfully.”

“UnMarry,” starring Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo, directed by Jeffrey Jeturian and produced under Quantum Films and Cineko Films, has been rated PG (Parental Guidance).

The film follows a couple, who separately process the dissolution of their marriage through annulment.

Also rated PG is the comedy-drama “Bar Boys: After School,” a sequel to the 2017 film “Bar Boys.”

Directed by Kip Oebanda under 901 Studios Inc., the story is set 10 years after the first film, and explores the lives of the characters after graduation.

A PG rating allows children below 13 years old to view the film, provided they are accompanied by their parents or a supervising adult.

The horror anthology, “Shake, Rattle and Roll: Evil Origins,” produced by Regal Entertainment and the 17th installment in the iconic film series, received an R-13 rating, restricting admission to viewers aged 13 and up.

The film explores mature themes through the narrative of a fictional malevolent character that traverses three distinct stories.

Sotto emphasized the Board’s role in guiding audiences toward responsible viewing.

“As we begin the review for this year’s MMFF, we encourage Filipino families to watch and support the eight entries and join us in celebrating the richness of world-class Filipino storytelling,” said Sotto.
