DOE, nagtakda ng public consultation ukol sa draft Carbon Credit Policy

NAKATAKDANG makapulong ng Department of Energy (DOE) ang 120 stakeholder representatives mula sa pribadong sektor ngayog linggo para mangalap ng feedback ukol sa draft Carbon Credit Policy na dine-develop nito sa hangarin na makahikayat ng investments o pamumuhunan sa clean energy.

Sinabi ng DOE na ang public consultation ay gagawin ngayong araw ng Martes, Agosto Tuesday, upang marinig ang feedback hinggil sa draft department circular na magbibigay ng general guidelines para sa pagpapalabas, pangangasiwa at monitoring ng carbon credits sa sektor ng enerhiya.

“This Carbon Credit Policy is a game-changer for the Philippine energy sector,” ayon kay DOE undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella.

“It will equip our energy sector with the tools to generate and manage carbon credits with integrity, ensuring every ton of reduced carbon dioxide is real and verifiable. This builds trust and unlocks investment in effective climate solutions,” aniya pa rin.

Layon ng Policy ay ang tiyakin ang environmental integrity sa pamamagitan ng pagpo-promote sa mga proyekto na “reduce emissions, enhance transparency at accountability”, ay nakahanay sa commitments ng Pilipinas sa ilalim ng Paris Agreement at iba pang climate frameworks.

Sa ilalim ng draft circular, “Carbon Credit Certificates (CCCs) will be given to parties for every one tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent of greenhouse gas emissions reduced, avoided, or removed from the atmosphere, verified as real and additional by accredited independent third-party entities.”

ito’y maaaring ipagpalit o gamitin sa pag-offsett sa domestic at international compliance markets, at boluntaryong carbon market.

Matatandaang, tinintahan ng Pilipinas at Singapore noong August 2024 ang memorandum of understanding para magtulungan sa carbon credits sa ilalim ng Article 6 ng Paris Agreement.

Ito ay nakikitang makatutulong na maikasa ang implementasyon ng kasunduan na kasalukuyang pinag-uusapan.( Daris Jose)
