House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos inihain na tanggalin ang travel tax

ISINUSULONG ng isang mambabatas na agad i-abolish o tanggalin ang travel tax dahil tumataliwas na ito sa layunin ng bansa na makabangon ang ekonomiya at regional competitiveness.

Inihain ni House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos (Ilocos Norte) ang House Bill (HB) No. 7443, na nagsusulong na ibasura ng travel tax at tugunan ang panawagan ng mga biyaherong Pilipino.

“The travel tax was created in a very different economic context. Today, it has become an added cost that restricts mobility and weighs heavily on ordinary Filipinos who simply want to travel for work, family or opportunity,” ani Marcos.

Sa panukala, ang travel tax na ipinapataw sa ilalim ng Presidential Decree (PD) No. 1183 at probisyon sa Tourism Act of 2009 na ibasura at itigil ang pangongolekta ng charges na P2,700 na ipinapataw sa mga first-class passengers at P1,620 para sa mga economy class travelers.

Sinabi ni Marcos na para sa isang bumibiyaheng pamilya ay pabigat na ito dahil sa halip ibang gustusin mailalaan ay sa pagbabayad ng travel tax.

“When travel becomes more expensive, fewer people move, fewer people spend and fewer opportunities circulate through the economy. Lowering the cost of travel allows Filipino families to allocate their money where it matters most,” paliwanag ni Marcos.
