Marcos sa Pentagon: Thanks for help vs threats

PINURI ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., ang security alliance ng Pilipinas sa Washington bilang pangunahing dahilan sa “preserving the peace and stability of the South China Sea.”

Ang pahayag na ito ni Pangulong Marcos ay inulit naman ni US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth nang mainit na tanggapin nito ang una sa Pentagon.

Pinasalamatan ng Pangulo ang administrasyong Trump para sa “continuing support that we feel and that we need in the face of the threats our country is facing.”

Ani Pangulong Marcos, ang alyansa ng Maynila sa Washington ay nagkaroon ng “formed a great part in terms of preserving the peace, in terms of preserving the stability of the South China Sea.”

Bilang tugon, sinabi naman ni Hegseth na ang dalawang allied nations, “under President Trump and your leadership, [have] made rapid progress in enhancing real deterrence and upholding a free and open Asia-Pacific.”

Tinukoy na halimbawa ang suporta na ipinagkaloob ng Washington nitong mga nakaraang taon, ani Hegseth sabay sabing “We’re also deploying new cutting-edge missiles and unmanned systems and revitalizing our defense industrial bases.”

“Together, we must forge a strong shield of real deterrence for peace, ensuring the long-term security and prosperity for our nations,” aniya pa rin.

Kapwa naman walang binanggit sina Pangulong Marcos at Hegseth hinggil sa Tsina kahit pa tinukoy nila ang tensyon sa South China Sea dahil sa ‘expansionist claims’ ng Beijing, pagbuo ng artificial islands at pagpapatibay ng strategic reefs, at agresibong aksyon ng Tsina sa Philippine civilian, naval at coast guard vessels.

Muli namang tinukoy nina Pangulong Marcos at Hegseth ang 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty, nagbubuklod sa Pilipinas at Estados Unidos sa tanggulan ng bawat isa sa pagkakataon na may armadong pag-atake.

Sinabi ni Hegseth “This pact extends to armed attacks on our armed forces, aircraft or public vessels, including our Coast Guards anywhere in the Pacific, including the South China Sea.”

Binanggit din nito ang pinakabagong Balikatan joint military exercises noong May at nagpapatuloy na Talisman Saber exercise sa Australia na sinalihan ng puwersa ng Estados Unidos at Pilipinas.
