Ngayong summer break, pagnilay-nilayan sana ng mga senador ang panukalang pagbabago sa konstitusyon

UMAASA si CamSur Rep. LRay Villafuerte na bibigyang panahon para pag-isipan at pag-aralang maigi ng mga miyembro ng Senate committee on constitutional amendments and revision of codes ngayong congressional break sa pagdesisyon sa report sa panukalang pagbabago sa restrictive economic provisions ng konstitusyon.

Sa kabila na isinusulong ng committee chairman nitong si Senador Robinhood Padilla na maaprubahan ng mga miyembro ng komite ang report na nag-eendorso sa Charter Change sa pamamagitan ng Constituent Assembly (Con-Ass) option— kaysa sa inaprubahan ng kamara na panukalang Constitutional Convention (Con-Con) ay sinabi ni Villafuerte na bukas siya sa naging kaganapan basta masigurong magtutuloy tuloy ang proseso.

“We are hoping our senators, especially the members of the Senate committee on constitutional amendments and revision of codes, can find time during our recess to consider the report of its chairman, Sen. Robin, endorsing constitutional reforms to do away with our 1987 Charter’s economic provisions that have restricted foreign ownership of, or participation in, Philippine businesses,” pahayag ni Villafuerte.

Para sa mambabatas, hindi isyu umano sa kanya kung anong hakbang (concon o con-ass) ang pipiliin ng senado para amyendahan ang konstitusyon kundi ang maipagpatuloy ang proseso upang maamyendahan o maisa-ayos ang depekto sa konstitusyon.

“The important thing is for us lawmakers to keep the ball rolling on constitutional reforms, in the hope that we can do away soon enough with the restrictive economic provisions of our 36-year-old Charter that have put off investors and impeded the inrush of FDIs (foreign direct investments),” dagdag ni Villafuerte.
