Dingdong at Alden, parehong wagi ng best actor: NORA, MARICEL at VILMA, triple tie sa ‘40th Star Awards for Movies’

Posted on: July 23rd, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

IT’S a… triple tie!

Yes, tatlo ang nagwaging Movie Actress of the Year sa katatapos lamang na 40th Star Awards for Movies ng PMPC o Philippine Movie Press Club.

Movie of the Year ang ‘Mallari’ at ang direktor nitong si Derick Cabrido, Indie Movie of the Year ang ‘Litrato’ at Indie Movie Director ang direktor nitong si Louie Ignacio.

Kumanta ang grupong Anthology.PH para kina Dekada Awardees Nora Aunor at Drama King Christopher de Leon (na nominado rin bilang Movie Actor of the Year para sa ‘When I Met You In Tokyo’).

Benhur Abalos, Jr., ang Metro Manila Development Authority and Metro Manila Film Festival chairman.
Chiz Escudero at Heart Evangelista, Allen Ansay at Sofia Pablo, Derrick Monasterio at Elle Villanueva, Will Ashley, Ashley Ortega, Jason Abalos, Patrick Quiroz, at Jon Lucas.
Nandun din sina IdeaFirst CEO and director, Perci M. Intalan, Dra.
Una na rito ang ‘CiaraMarie Foundation’ – dedicated ito in building more schools in remote provinces and addressing the needs of children on the autism spectrum.

Posted on: July 23rd, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

Pahayag ni Rhea, “I follow Jennylyn Mercado on Instagram. Some of her dear friends also told me before that she’s a nice person. Her star power and huge social media following will hopefully connect us to more consumers. Jennylyn embodies grace and beauty.

“I welcome Jennylyn to Beautéderm family. I hope this partnership will inspire Filipinas across the country to feel confident and beautiful in their own skin.”

Rhea Tan is an inspiration to everyone. She’s really good at what she does — business. People look up to her. People follow her. You know why? Because she’s authentic and sincere. She protects her brand and she values her consumers. I am very grateful for her trust and for the trust of her company. I believe in the products.”

I was able to change my resellers’, employees’, and scholars’ lives and will continue doing that.”

Discover ‘Kono Basho,’ a moving Cinemalaya entry by Project 8 Projects and Mentorque Productions

Posted on: July 22nd, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

Project 8 Projects and Mentorque Collaborate on Cinemalaya Film ‘Kono Basho’.

Explore themes of grief, family, and healing set in post-tsunami Japan. In theaters August 2024.

“To grieve together and safely: sometimes that’s all that matters.” – Merlinda Bobis

Grief often comes in waves, urging us to seek solitude. Yet, finding solace in others can be a powerful remedy. Project 8 Projects and Mentorque Productions come together to bring you Kono Basho at this year’s Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.

An Esteemed Legacy of Filmmaking

Project 8 Projects is no stranger to success, having earned accolades such as the Cinemalaya Audience Choice Award for Rookie (2023) and the Gawad Urian Best Film for Iti Mapukpukaw (2023). Their filmography includes critically acclaimed titles like Never Not Love You (2018), Alone Together (2019), and Fan Girl (2020).

Mentorque Productions, known for the box-office hit Mallari (2023) – the first Filipino mainstream film distributed by Warner Brothers – continues its tradition of impactful storytelling with Kono Basho.

Bryan Dy, Executive Producer at Mentorque Productions, shares his motivation: “What drew me to Kono Basho was the powerful story that embodies hope in the face of adversity. Witnessing Rikuzentakata’s rebuilding and the community’s spirit is incredibly inspiring. I want audiences to feel the warmth and solace this film offers.”

Dy emphasizes the importance of supporting filmmakers who craft stories with heart, highlighting the strength of the human spirit.

Kono Basho follows the journey of two estranged half-sisters, Ella (Gabby Padilla) and Reina (Arisa Nakano), who reunite at their father’s funeral in Rikuzentakata. Ella, a 28-year-old Filipina anthropologist, grapples with cultural and emotional complexities tied to her father’s second family in Japan. Despite their differences, Ella and Reina forge a bond, reconciling their perceptions of their shared father.

Their path of self-discovery intertwines with Rikuzentakata’s healing, a city deeply affected by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Together, they navigate family tides, addressing unresolved traumas that reshape their relationship.

The film stars Gawad Urian and Cinemalaya Best Actress nominee Gabby Padilla, known for her roles in Kalel, 15, Billie and Emma, and Gitling. Gabby reflects on the experience: “The community we built in Japan while shooting in Rikuzentakata was one of my favorite things about the whole Kono Basho experience. Being able to work with an amazing team in such a magical place was already a gift in itself.”

Arisa Nakano, celebrated for her role in the Oscar-nominated Perfect Days, brings depth to Reina. Having experienced Japan’s 2011 disaster, she hopes the film offers Filipino audiences a glimpse into that reality.

“Having lived through the big natural disaster in Japan, I’ve seen how people’s lives changed because of it. I hope people in the Philippines get a glimpse of that reality through this film.”

Visual artist, curator, and filmmaker Jaime Pacena II draws inspiration from his time in Rikuzentakata. He integrates thirteen years of archival photos and videos into the film, portraying themes of memory and resilience. Pacena dedicates Kono Basho to his three eldest sisters, emphasizing family and sibling bonds.

Director Dan Villegas returns to his roots as a cinematographer, enriching the visual storytelling of Kono Basho. Villegas also serves as Executive Producer and Producer, ensuring the film’s compelling narrative is brought to life.

The Japan Foundation played a crucial role in the film’s production, ensuring Rikuzentakata’s culture and sensibilities were authentically represented

Waste of time kung sasagutin… KIM, ‘di mahilig pumatol sa isyung binabato sa kanya

Posted on: July 22nd, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

“I’m not a fan of answering someone online. It will just light the fire. Parang pini-feed mo ‘yung snake for you to bite. Mas maganda na huwag mo siya pansinin. Just go on with your truth.

“Nakaka-waste of time na dapat i-enjoy mo ‘yung what’s happening to you, kaysa ‘yung idi-deal mo ‘yung mga false stories, mga bashers, mga doubters.

“Hindi mo tuloy ma-enjoy ‘yung magandang life in front of you if you keep on looking back.” sey pa ng magaling na kapuso aktres.

“I have my freedom on what to share and what not to share. Just go to my Instagram, you’ll know what’s happening.

“The most important thing is to be grateful.

“You’re not always on top. At a certain point, mukhang wala ka rin dyan. Be grateful all the time and just enjoy what you have right now.

“They were always in contact, from social media but never like hide, walang gano’n. It was just, I’m okay.

Unlimited chances from someone to change. Give me a reason na ipaharap kita sa kanya, nang sober ka. No, the drunk text messages to my daughter, you think that would help her?

“You came out to an interview all of a sudden without even asking us? Even if you didn’t mention my name, sa tingin mo hindi kami nabulabog? Did you even think for a while, what would happen to your daughter?

So ayun, (naapektuhan sa) school, friends, she was bullied. Someone all of a sudden just posted on student council page a picture of Baron in jail, ‘Kaninong tatay ‘to?’“ kailangan ko pa bang ikwento? Kung anong pinagdaanan namin just to keep our peace?

“This is my life. This is my children’s lives. This is my story, No one has the right to tell my story. I’ve always on my mistakes, But let me say kung ano ang pagkakamali ko, hindi ikaw.

“Hindi ko kailangan ng spokesperson. I’ve always faced my battle, I’ve always fought them head on. Why, because I pray. I do things not because I wanna hurt people. I do things now because I want people to learn from my mistakes. I want this to end because my daughter is turning 18 soon.

“And she does not need to come out to this world and answer questions for her mother. So, I’m putting an end to this now,

“So, I’m happy. I have a child named Sophia and she does not need anything else in this world because she’s complete,” mahabang litaniya pa ni Nadia Montenegro.

Posted on: July 22nd, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments
“The country’s growth has been dampened by high inflation, a challenge that President Marcos must address if we are to achieve our goal of becoming an upper-middle-income economy by 2028 (Ang paglago ng bansa ay pinahina ng mataas na inflation rate, isa itong hamon na kailangang tugunan ni Pangulong Marcos kung nais nating maabot ang ating layunin na maging isang upper-middle-income economy pagsapit ng 2028),” sabi ni Zubiri.
“I believe it is essential that the prosperity reflected in our GDP translates into tangible improvements in the daily lives of our people, (Naniniwala akong mahalaga na ang kasaganaan na ipinapakita sa ating GDP ay magbunga ng konkretong pagpapabuti sa araw-araw na buhay ng ating mga kababayan),” binigyang-diin niya.
“The wage increases of late are not enough to help Filipinos cope with the rising prices of goods. We should pass the minimum wage law that the Senate has already acted upon on third reading and is languishing at the House of Representatives,” sabi ni Zubiri. “Ultimately, the true measure of a country’s economic success is whether every family can afford to put food on their table. We urge the President to consider supporting the legislated wage hike bill.”
“The industry has been plagued by criminal activities, and the social costs far outweigh the revenues. It is time for a clear policy on POGOs, whether it involves an immediate ban or a phased transition to other industries for affected workers,” pahayag pa niya.
“We will consider and support the President’s legislative priorities as part of our six-member bloc in the Senate. Our goal is to work together for the welfare and prosperity of all Filipinos,” pagtatapos ni Zubiri.

Black Cap Pictures brings “The Roundup: Punishment” and “Real Life Fiction” exclusively at SM Cinemas this August

Posted on: July 20th, 2024 by @peoplesbalita No Comments

BLACK Cap Pictures proudly announces its lineup of August films that will open exclusively at SM Cinemas, The Round: Punishment on August 14 and Real Life Fiction on August 28.

South Korea’s 2nd biggest 2024 film to-date, “The Roundup: Punishment” filmed partly in the Philippines, features Korean American actor Don Lee as Ma Seok Do aka monster cop as he continues to hunt vicious groups of criminals that have taken its operations outside Korea.

Known for his powerful punches that earned him the nickname ‘monster cop’, Seok Do and his ragtag crew dive deep into the world of digital crimes resulting in new alliances as he learns more about the worldwide dark web.

The hugely successful Roundup franchise is now on its fourth installment with The Roundup: Punishment that packs a load of Korea’s versatile and favorite actors. Lead star Don Lee’s breakout role in the global box-office hit “Train to Busan” gained him global recognition and has since then been a staple favorite within Korean films and series with his variety of scene-stealing performances. Don Lee’s credits include roles in Marvel’s Eternals, South Korea’s The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil; Unstoppable and Badland Hunters among others. Starring alongside Lee in the film are Korea’s most notable actors Kim Mu-yeol (Sweet Home), Lee Joo Bin (Queen of Tears), Park Ji-Hwan (Gyeongsong Creature) and Lee Dong-Hwi (Reply 1988).

For the other SM exclusive release, Piolo Pascual stars in the Philippine-produced English language film “Real Life Fiction” alongside Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Epy Quizon with the special participation of Lav Diaz. Directed and written by Paul Soriano, the film is an intense psychological drama on the life of a famous actor Paco (Pascual), who must come to terms with what’s real and not after years of being one of the highly celebrated actors of his time.

Filmed at the height of the pandemic, “Real Life Fiction” further tests the cast’s depth and resilience as they navigate through real life crises all while fulfilling their roles to give the audience a glimpse of what most actors experience on and off the camera. “This film is an observation and a personal look at how my imaginations come to life through the lives of actors who completely give me their trust and support. Sometimes, real life is the fiction we create in our mind,” shares director Soriano.

Distributed by Black Cap Pictures, “The Roundup: Punishment” opens August 14 and “Real Life Fiction” opens August 28 exclusively at SM Cinemas.
