Isa patay, 52 sugatan sa gumuhong ikalawang palapag ng isang simbahan sa Bulacan

NAKAPAGTALA na ng isang patay at umakyat na sa 52 ang sugatan sa nangyaring pagguho ng ikalawang palapag ng St. Peter the Apostle Church sa San Jose del Monte, Bulacan sa kasagsagan ng misa para sa Ash Wednesday ngayong araw.

Ayon kay Mayor Arthur Robes, kinilala ng mga otoridad ang nasawing biktima na si Luneta Morales, 80 taong gulang, na hindi na nakaligtas pa sa naturang insidente matapos na magtamo ng malaking pinsala nang dahil sa pagbagsak ng naturang simbahan.

Habang sinabi naman ni City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office head Gina Ayson, dagsa ang mga tao sa naturang simbahan at marami rin ang nakapila para sa magpapahid ng abo nang mangyari an naturang insidente.

Sabi ni Parish priest Romulo Perez, dati nang infested ng anay ang ikalawang palapag ng naturang simbahan na gawa sa kahoy.

Matatandaang batay sa ulat ng San Jose del Monte Public Information Office, lagpas alas-7:00 ng umaga nangyaring ang nasabing pagguho na agad namang nirespondehan ng mga kinauukulan.

Dahil dito ay agad na ipinag-utos ang pansamantalang pagpapasara sa simbahan para magbigay daan naman sa gagawing assessment ng city engineering and building officials sa gusali. (Gene Adsuara)

Istasyon ng EDSA busway sa SM North nagkaroon ng ground breaking

MAGKAKAROON ng isang “state-of-the-art” na estasyon na tatawaging Edsa Busway sa SM North EDSA matapos ang ginawang seremonya para sa ground breaking ng nasabing proyekto.

Tinatayang matatapos ang Edsa busway sa darating na July 31, 2024 kung saan ito ay magkakaron ng concierge, ticketing booth, at turnstiles para sa automatic fare collection system.

Lalagyan rin ng ramps at elevators sa estasyon upang magamit ng mga persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens, mga pamilya na may kasamang mga bata, at mga buntis.

Ang mga pasahero at pedestrians ay magkakaroon ng isang convenient, ligtas, at komportable paglalakad sa EDSA patungo sa kabilang dako ng highway.

“The Edsa Busway Bridge and Concourse aims to provide safe, accessible, convenient and PWD-friendly walkways for commuters and pedestrians approaching the EDSA Busway stations and crossing EDSA from one side to another,” wika ng Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Kahit na kasama ang pasilidad para sa implementasyon ng automated fare collection system ay hindi pa rin ito magagamit dahil ito ay pag-aaralan pang mabuti.

Sa kabilang dako naman sa transportasyon, inihayag ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) na magkakaroon ng pansamantalang suspensyon ng operasyon ng Pasig River Ferry sa apat na istasyon.

Inihinto ang operasyon dahil sa panganib na maaaring mangyari dahil sa pagkakaroon ng “low water level” sa mga daungan. Ang mga sumusunod na istasyon ay pansamantalang wala munang operasyon: Lambingan, Sta. Ana, Maybunga, at PUP.

ETRAVEL REGISTRATION, LIBRE

BINIGYAN diin ni Bureau of immigration Commissioner (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco na ang pagpaparehistro ng eTravel ay libre at binabalaan nito ang publiko laban sa mga scammers.

“The eTravel registration process is absolutely free of charge. We, therefore, advise the traveling public to register only in the government’s official website at https://etravel.gov.ph.,” ayon kay Tansingco.

Binalaan ni Tansingco ang publiko na mag-ingat sa mga mapanlokong mga websites na nanghihingi ng online payment at maaaring i-report ito sa cybercrime investigation o sa coordinating center (CICC) via sa kanilang website na https://cicc.gov.ph/report/.

Nag-isyu ng warning ang BI Chief kasunod ng mga ulat sa mga pasahero sa airport na nagsasabing nakarehistro na sila sa e Travel at nakapagbayad na.

Tinatayang umabot sa P3,000 hanggang P5,000 ang sinisingil ng mga scammers kung iko-convert ito na kadalasan ay tsina-charge ng US dollars.

Sa ulat ng mga opisyal ng BI sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) na maraming pasahero ang na nabibigla na sinasabihan na kinakailangan nilang magparehistro sa eTravel dahil ang digital QR code na kanilang ipinapakita ay hindi ma-access ng kanilang system.

Pinas, target na makapagrehistro, makapagbigay ng serbisyo sa mga ‘stateless Pinoy’ sa Sabah

TARGET ng Philippine Embassy sa Kuala Lumpur na makapagrehistro ng 550,000 “stateless” Filipino sa Sabah, at sa kalaunan ay makapagbigay sa mga ito ng serbisyo na available para sa mga mamamayang Filipino.

Tinatayang may 770,000 Filipino sa Sabah, 550,000 mulasa bilang ng mga ito ay undocumented, ayon kay Filipino citizens, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary Eduardo Jose de Vega.

“The embassy provides no timeline. It is an ongoing project that will take years. We do not have a permanent office in Sabah,” ayon kay de Vega.

Sinabi pa ni De Vega na karamihan sa mga undocumented nationals ay kulang sa identification documents.

Sa kabilang dako, sinabi naman ni Philippine Ambassador-designate to Malaysia Maria Angela Ponce na ang embahada ay nagpadala ng misyon para makapagbigay ng civil registry services sa lahat ng mga Filipino sa lugar.

Tinuran nito na sa ilalim ng Malaysian laws,ang mga indibiduwal na hindi Malaysian nationals o permanent residents ay hindi makakapag- access ng edukasyon doon, dahilan upang ang embahada ay makipagtulungan sa non-government organizations para makapagbigay sa mga ito ng alternatibong learning centers.

Para sa health care, nakikipagtulungan na rin ang embahada sa Department of Health para makapagbigay ng basic health services sa mga ito. (Daris Jose)

Bigas sa halip na pera sa 4Ps, isinusulong

PINAG-AARALAN na ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang panukala ng Department of Agriculture (DA) na magbigay ng bigas sa mga benepisyaryo ng Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program o 4Ps sa halip na tulong pinansyal o pera mula sa Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Sinabi ni Agriculture Undersecretary Roger Navarro na iminungkahi nila sa meeting nila sa Pangulo na kung maaari ay i-convert na lamang sa bigas mula sa National Food Authority (NFA) ang binibigay na pera sa 4Ps benificiaries.

Paliwanag ni Navarro ito ay upang maibsan ang bigat sa mga mahihirap na Filipino na kailangan pang bumili ng bigas na mayroong mataas na presyo.

Sa ganitong paraan ay babagal ang inflation sa bansa at mapapababa rin ang presyo ng bigas.

Mayroon umanong 20% na mahihirap na Pinoy sa buong bansa na nasa ilalim ng 4Ps ng DSWD na binibigyan ng tulong pinansyal o pera subalit kanila rin pinapambili ng bigas.

“These are 20% all over the country which are the vulnerable poor under the DSWD that is beneficiary for 4Ps. And we’re giving them money, and unfortunately because that is not rice, they’re going to buy rice in the market price; and that put pressure and inflationary in the market because they’re going to compete with the people who have money and then with only 4Ps. If we can convert the 4Ps by way of supplying them rice instead of money through NFA, then probably the inflation for rice will go down,” ayon pa kay Navarro.

Sinabi naman umano ni Pangulong Marcos na ikokonsidera nila ang nasabing panukala at titingnan kung paano ito ipapatupad. (Daris Jose)

When director Zelda Williams and her team first screened Lisa Frankenstein, the host asked the focus group at the end what they thought the main message of the movie was.

“There was of course mention of flying body parts,” shares Williams. “But one of them, who seemed to be around 18, raised their hand and confidently answered, ‘that you can be a completely unhinged weirdo and still deserve to be loved!’ This movie won’t be for everyone, but if anyone leaves it feeling THAT way, then in my eyes, I’ve more than done my job!”

In Lisa Frankenstein, it’s 1989 and Lisa Swallows (Kathryn Newton), an awkward 17-year-old, is trying to adjust to a new school and a new life after her mother’s death and her father’s hasty remarriage. Despite the unwavering support offered by her plucky cheerleader step sister Taffy (Liza Soberano – who has earned local and international praise, including from Hollywood director Joe Russo, for her performance!), Lisa only finds solace in the abandoned cemetery near her house, where she tends to the grave of a young man who died in 1837 – and whose corpse she unwittingly reanimates (Cole Sprouse). Feeling obligated to help the poor soul regain his humanity, Lisa embarks on a quest to breathe new life into her long-dead new companion. All she needs to succeed are some freshly harvested body parts and Taffy’s broken tanning bed.

The film, inspired by 1935’s Bride of Frankenstein and ’80s favorites including Weird Science, was written by Academy Award winner Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer’s Body). Cody found an ideal collaborator in Williams, an actress turned filmmaker known for her voice-over work on such projects as Nickelodeon’s animated series The Legend of Korra and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Williams also starred in Freeform’s anthology series Dead of Summer and enjoyed recurring roles on the hit series Teen Wolf, before writing and directing her first short film, 2018’s Shrimp. Lisa Frankenstein is the feature film directorial debut of Williams, daughter of the late Robin Williams and part-Filipina Marsha Garces.

Cody was ceaselessly impressed by the atmosphere Williams fostered on set. “Zelda ran one of the most warm, welcoming and efficient sets I’ve ever seen,” says Cody. “She also grew up in the industry, so instead of seeing the usual first-film jitters, I saw a director calmly and smoothly operating inside her comfort zone. She was an ally to the actors, and to the script as well.”

Adds Kathryn Newton, who plays Lisa: “The world in the script is so heightened, but Zelda managed to inject so much heart and love into it. She’s really in the moment, thinking about every little detail. Zelda’s fun and cool and I trust her, and that’s really all you want in a director – someone you trust. She always had my back.”

In making a story that is a darkly funny, bizarrely romantic and gleefully gory celebration of love, Williams says she hopes to remind audiences to embrace their own eccentricities. In a world hellbent on telling people to be curated, perfect and small, it’s important to remember that sometimes, bigger and wilder is just better. “I would really love them to leave feeling maybe a bit more comfortable in their weirdness, a bit more seen in whatever way they thought made them too odd to be lovable,” says the director.

FDA, bukas sa medical use ng marijuana

BUKAS si Food and Drug Administration (FDA) director general Dr. Samuel Zacate sa paggamit ng marijuana para sa panggagamot subalit kailangan na hindi makasasama sa taong gagamitan nito.

”My take is medicine is an innovation, we cannot guarantee na ito lang po tayo at darating sa future eh wala na, hanggang dito na lang,” ayon kay Zacate sa press briefing sa Malakanyang.

”My take on marijuana is that I am open, basically, Filipinos must have a wide range of therapeutic indication, drug of choice so ako po ay for the record, to the Food and Drug Administration, as the director general is very much open for the marijuana as long as this has been streamlined as long as di makakasama sa ating mga kababayan,” dagdag na wika ni Zacate.

Aniya pa, ang panukalang batas ukol sa medical use ng marijuana ay “subject to the wisdom of the legislative branch of government.”

Sa ulat, inaprubahan na ng House Committee on Dangerous Drugs at House Committee on Health ang panukalang batas sa paggamit ng marijuana sa paggamot sa mga malalang karamdaman.

Inihayag ni House Committee on Dangerous Drugs Chairman at Surigao del Norte 2nd District Rep. Robert Ace Barbers na ang mga panukalang batas patungkol sa medical cannabis o marijuana ay pinagtibay ng kanyang komite at committee on Health.

Nilinaw naman ni Barbers na eksklusibo lamang ito sa paggamit sa medisina at hindi para sa recreational o pangliwaliw tulad ng mga sakit na insomnia, matinding pagkabalisa, kanser at iba pa pero dapat ay may preskripsyon ng mga accredited na mga physicians.

Ang sobrang preskripsyon ng medical cannabis ay may katapat namang kaparusahang P500,000 na hindi hihigit sa P1 milyon at pagkakakulong ng anim na buwan hanggang anim na taon.

Ang nasabing panukala ay sasailalim sa pagsusuri ng Mother Committee bago ito pagdebatehan.

Hindi naman pinahihintulutan dito na mag-export ng marijuana sakaling tuluyan na itong mapagtibay sa plenaryo ng Kamara. (Daris Jose)

Expansion ng PGH, itinulak ni Bong Go

ISINULONG ni Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, chair ng Senate committee on health and demography, ang legislative bill na naglalayong dagdagan ang bed capacity ng Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

Mula sa kasalukuyang 1,500 beds nais ni Go na gawing 2,200 bed capacity ang PGH bilang bahagi ng ang kanyang layunin na palakasin ang imprastraktura ng healthcare service sa bansa para sa mga kapus-palad na pasyente.

Inihain ni Go noong Miyerkules, Pebrero 7, ang Senate Bill No. 2539 bilang tugon sa lumalaking pangangailangan para sa mga serbisyong medikal. Titiyak din ito na mas maraming Pilipino ang magkakaroon ng access sa de-kalidad na healthcare services.

Binibigyang-diin din nito ang mahalagang papel ng PGH bilang pangunahing pasilidad ng pampublikong kalusugan sa bansa.

Ayon kay Go, ang PGH ay kinukunsidera bilang pinakamalaking government tertiary hospital sa bansa at nangunguna sa pagbibigay ng pangangalagang medikal sa libu-libong Pilipino, lalo sa mga mahihirap, sa pagtaas ng populasyon at pagtaas ng saklaw ng iba’t ibang mga kondisyon ng kalusugan.

Anang senador, panahon na para matulungan ang ospital na makatugon sa lumalaking pangangailangan ng mga Pilipino.

Dahil dito, hinikayat ni Go ang mga kasama niya sa Senado at iba pang sektor na suportahan ang panukalang batas na ito.

Asawa ni Roque, out na bilang Pag-IBIG exec

OUT na si Mylah R. Roque bilang miyembro ng ng Board of Trustees ng Home Development Fund / Pag-IBIG Fund.

Sa katunayan, itinalaga ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., si Maria Lourdes D. Doria-Velarde bilang kapalit ni Roque, asawa ni dating presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.

Si Doria-Velarde ang magiging kinatawan ng pribadong sektor sa Pag-IBIG.

Tinuran pa ng Malakanyang, si Doria-Velarde ay dating deputy general manager for administration ng Duty Free Philippines, at miyembro ng Board of Trustees ng Nayong Pilipino Foundation at Intercontinental Broadcasting Corp.

“She is also a content creator and culinary arts expert,” ayon pa rin sa Malakanyang.

PBBM, pag-aaralan ang pagtatatag ng “PHARMA-ZONES” para mabawasan ang presyo ng mga medisina

INATASAN ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang mga health officials na pag-aralang mabuti ang pagtatatag ng tinatawag na pharmaceutical economic zones o “pharma-zones” para maibaba ang presyo ng medisina at masiguro ang episyenteng proseso ng regulasyon.

Sa isinagawang sectoral meeting sa Malakanyang, araw ng Martes ukol sa pag-streamline sa drug regulatory processes sa bansa, sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos na ang pharma-zones ang tutugon sa development at pag-manupaktura ng common generic drugs na magpapalakas sa local na suplay at ibaba ang presyo sa “true generic level similar to India.”

“Pharma-zones should reduce prices. For the moment, ‘yung mga critical sa atin ngayon, we are hoping to follow the one that has been introduced in India, for example, naibaba talaga nila ‘yung presyo ng kanilang drugs at saka nakapag-export pa sila,” ayon sa Pangulo sa naturang pagpupulong.

“So, we want to be in the same place so that the cost of medicines is a little too high, it’s not a little too high, it’s too high. Kailangan natin maibaba ang presyo to true generic. So, if we produce it locally, we are going to bring down, but we have to get the accreditation, we have to get the authority to be able to produce those drugs and to be able to distribute them as quickly as possible,” aniya pa rin.

At upang magawa ito, winika ng Pangulo na kailangang hikayatin ng pamahalaan ang foreign at local investors na ilagay ang kanilang pera sa Philippine pharmaceutical sector sa pamamagitan ng pagpapatayo ng pharma-zones na kahalintulad ng ecozones na mino-monitor at sinusuri ng Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) kung saan ang mga investors ay nakakukuha ng siguradong buwis at iba pang financial incentives upang sa gayon at maibaba ang halaga ng manufacturing.

“We are talking to foreign, hopefully foreign investors, but we are also talking to the locals. My theory here is that, at the very least, we provide the locals and the foreign investors with an equal playing field. We give everyone a chance to do that. To do whatever they want. But now, it’s not really regulated,” ayon sa Pangulo.

Sinasabing, pinagsama-sama ng Pharma-zones ang mga kompanya na kaugnay sa lahat ng aspeto ng drug manufacturing kabilang na ang “research and development, clinical testing at trials at maging ang regulasyon.”

Sa kabilang dako, dinaluhan naman nina Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile, Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Frederick Go, Director General Samuel Zacate of the Food and Drugs Administration at Director General Ernesto Perez of the Anti-Red Tape Authority ang sectoral meeting.

Samantala, sa press briefing sa Malakanyang matapos ang sectoral meeting, binigyang-diin ni Zacate ang paglikha ng pharma-zones na makatutulong na palakasin ang local drug production sa tatlong aspeto na kinikilala ng PEZA.

“So it will have a role, the FDA will have a role so that pagpasok po ng isang gamot, deretso testing, deretso registration para po magkaroon po ng mabilis at malaki ang lawak ng coverage especially those essential medicines, like for example the generic drugs and the antibiotics that has been approved by the stringent regulatory authority of the different countries,” ayon kay Zacate.

“Napakaganda po ng proyekto ng ating Presidente kasi kung tatlo po iyan, it will give more influx of essential and generic drug. As of now, there are three main, but iyong isa is I think the Clark, but the two has yet to be determined by the PEZA itself kasi hindi pupuwede makapag-determine iyong FDA. We just there to streamline the process,” aniya pa rin.

Samantala, inatasan ng Pangulo ang FDA na gawing “more accessible and efficient” ang drug application process sa pamamagitan ng one-stop shop scheme upang hikayatin kapuwa ang local at foreign pharmaceutical firms na maging bahagi ngi drug manufacturing para gawing mas abot-kaya ang medisina.
